CBS announced the host and panel of experts for its new reality competition series Live To Dance. Paula Abdul as executive producer, lead expert and mentor will be joined by host Andrew Gunsberg who recently was host of Australian Idol and the nationally syndicated radio countdown show, Take 40 Australia. The panel of experts will consist of Travis Payne and Kimberly Wyatt, both of whom have extensive dance and choreography experience. The first open casting call is happening today in New York City at the Jacob Javits Center followed by a second open casting call in Los Angeles on October 28 (location TBD). ABC is taking its summer reality series Wipeout to midseason, bringing back the Endemol USA-produced show in January. ABC ordered eight new episodes with a “winter wonderland” themed course complete with slippery ice and new stunts such as Spanker Sleds and a Polar Bear Run. The new episodes will be part of the show’s recent fourth season with 24 total eps.

E! introduces viewers to three women who are married to rock stars and one who wants to be a rock star bride in the new reality series Married to Rock, debuting November 7 at 1030p. The series centers on Susan Holmes McKagan, who has been married to Duff McKagan of Guns-N-Roses since 1999; Etty Farrell, who is married to Perry Ferrell of Jane’s Addiction; Josie Stevens, a model who eloped with guitarist Steve Stevens; and AJ Celi, who has been in a relationship with guitarist Billy Duffy of The Cult for three years and is ready to get married. Married to Rock, produced by Bunim-Murray Productions, relates the wild road tours and groupies to quiet date nights while these four friends juggle family life and careers while living in the spotlight with their famous men.

Television actress Fran Drescher, best known for her starring role in the 1990s sitcom The Nanny, will helm a daytime talk show set to debut this November as part of a three-week preview on six FOX O&Os. The Fran Drescher Show, covering everything from “pedicures to politics” as well as life lessons will premiere November 26 on FOX’s WNYW/New York, KTTV/Los Angeles, WTXF/Philadelphia, KSAZ/Phoenix, KMSP/Minneapolis and WOFL/Orlando. The show is co-produced by Fox Television Stations and syndicator Debmar-Mercury. Scott Sternberg, Peter Marc Jacobson and Drescher will all serve as executive producers on the show and Debmar-Mercury’s Lonnie Burstein, EVP/Programming and Production developed the show and will supervise it for Debmar-Mercury. If the show performs well during this three-week preview, the aim is to gain a full national syndication launch for the 2011-2012 season.

E! tapped journalist/author Laura Ling to host the network’s documentary series E! Investigates. Ling will take an in-depth journalistic approach as she examines important and controversial topics, stories or trends in each one-hour episode. In the first episode premiering December 8 at 10p, Ling will investigate the rise of teen suicides in the US and in the December 15 episode she will look at the secret realities of military wives. Previously, Ling was VP of Current TV’s journalism department and created that network’s weekly investigative docu-series Vanguard. While at Current and during a reporting stint focused on the trafficking of North Korean women in March 2009, Ling and her colleague Euna Lee were detained by North Korean soldiers along the Chinese-North Korean border. Ling and Lee were arrested and held captive in North Korea for 140 days before being granted a special pardon to return to the US.

NBC halted production on any further new episodes of its frosh drama series Outlaw starring Jimmy Smits. The series will continue to air in its Friday at 10p time period for the next several weeks, as five unaired episodes remain. NBC said it will monitor the series’ ratings over these next few weeks before making a decision to keep it or cancel it. Last week, Outlaw averaged 4.7 million total viewers and delivered a 1.0/4 among A18-49. Outlaw is produced by Universal Media Studios and Conaco owned by Conan O’Brien.

ABC News struck a deal with the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation to fund a year-long investigative project probing into worldwide health problems and their solutions. The Gates Foundation is giving ABC News a grant worth $1.5 million and in turn, ABC is supplying $4.5 million for this reporting project which will cover health topics around the world. By accepting the grant, ABC News agreed to include extensive coverage of global health topics and crisis issues on all its programs in addition to a one-hour primetime special airing this December which will kick-off the project and another hour-long special in December 2011 marking the conclusion of the coverage.

The long wait could soon be over for Verizon customers who’d like to get their hands on Apple’s iPhone. Verizon will ramp up to begin selling the iPhone by early Jan., according to reports in Bloomberg and the WSJ, ending AT&T‘s 3-year exclusive lock on the device that has helped it earn record profits. (Apple confirmed its original deal with AT&T was for 5 years earlier this summer, but one can only assume a renegotiation has taken place.) Apple’s about face has no doubt much to do with the desire to get on Verizon’s officially announced 4G LTE network, which will launch in 38 major metro markets and to more than 110 Americans by the end of the year. The launch will include large section of the northeast corridor including New York, Washington D.C. and Boston, where iPhone users have complained the most about poor network coverage.

CNN’s Anderson Cooper is making a move into daytime as host of a new, one-hour daily daytime strip show, scheduled for a national syndication launch in Fall 2011. Warner Bros. Domestic Television Distribution is distributing the New York-based show produced by Telepictures Productions in association with StrongChild Productions. Cooper will host and executive produce the daily talk show that will delve into topics targeting a daytime audience such as social issues, trends and events, pop culture and celebrity, human interest stories and more. Cooper will continue to helm his weeknight show on CNN, Anderson Cooper 360 at 10p. FOX continues the storyline of its action drama series Human Target when the second season premieres November 17 at 8p. The new season introduces new characters with Indira Varma playing the billionaire philanthropist, Ilsa Pucci and Janet Montgomery joins as Ames a beautiful thief who shares a past with Winston (Chi McBride). Human Target is based on the DC Comics comic book and a novel. Bonanza Productions Inc. produces the series in association with Wonderland Sound and Vision, DC Comics and Warner Bros. Television. Originally, FOX had set the premiere date for Human Target on October 1 at 8p and now repeat episodes of House will air in the Friday at 8p time slot.

Comedian Greg Giraldo, who appeared on NBC’s Last Comic Standing competition series as a judge, died yesterday after an apparent accidental overdose on prescription pills. Mr. Giraldo was hospitalized since Saturday in New Jersey. Mr. Giraldo had also appeared on Comedy Central for its roast specials and on The Howard Stern Show.

On October 29, The Oprah Winfrey Show is reuniting the entire cast of the hit musical movie, The Sound of Music for the first time in 45 years. The cast will join Oprah and share behind-the-scenes stories about the movie’s production, their time together on set and what they each have been doing since the film first debuted in 1965. In addition, the von Trapp Children, a singing ensemble featuring members of the real von Trapp family will offer a special tribute to the film on the Oprah show. Members of The Sound of Music appearing include Julie Andrews, Christopher Plummer, Charmian Carr (Liesl), Nicholas Hammond (Friedrich), Heather Menzies-Urich (Louisa), Duane Chase (Kurt), Angela Cartwright (Brigitta), Debbie Turner (Marta) and Kym Karath (Gretl).  The Sound of Music won five Academy Awards in 1965 including Best Picture.
