Two Sunday night reality series will continue on CBS during the 2011-2012 season.  CBS renewed The Amazing Race for a 19th edition and Undercover Boss for a third run.  Amazing Race’s fall edition delivered close to 12 million total viewers while this current season of Undercover Boss is averaging 12.3 million viewers and a 3.4/8 with A18-49.  The Amazing Race is from Jerry Bruckheimer Television and Earthview Inc. in association with ABC Studios and Amazing Race Productions.  Undercover Boss is produced by Studio Lambert Ltd.

Making it official, Comedy Central picked up 26 new episodes of animated sci-fi comedy series Futurama produced by Twentieth Century Fox Television.  The 26 episodes comprise seasons 7-A and 7-B and the first 13 eps will premiere during summer of 2012 with the remaining 13 episodes launching during summer of 2013. The original voice cast of Futurama will reprise their roles including Billy West, Katey Sagal and John DiMaggio.  Rough Draft Studios, Inc. contributes the animation.

Zach Galifianakis, currently starring in HBO’s comedy Bored to Death, made a first-look deal with the premium network. Legendary actress, humanitarian and aids activist, Elizabeth Taylor died yesterday at the age of 79.  Known for her violet eyes and for being the most recognizable movie star in the world, she made numerous memorable films from National Velvet (1944) that made her a star when she was just 12 years old to iconic films including Giant (1956), Cat on a Hot Tin Roof (1958) to her Oscar-winning performances in Butterfield 8 (1960), Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf? (1966) and who can forget Cleopatra (1963).  Throughout her prolific acting career, she made many notable television appearances, including a brief stint on ABC’s General Hospital in 1981, in several TV movies and miniseries like North and South (1985) and as the voice of “Maggie” in one episode of FOX’s The Simpsons in 1992.

Turner Classic Movies (TCM) honors the life and career of Elizabeth Taylor with a 24-hour movie tribute on April 10 beginning at 6a with Lassie Come Home followed by many of her best movies including in primetime Cat on a Hot Tin Roof at 6p; Butterfield 8 at 8p; and Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf? at 10p.

On BIO Channel tonight is a two-hour documentary BIO Remembers: Elizabeth Taylor at 8p revealing her private life and career.

Also this Sunday, Fox Movie Channel remembers Elizabeth Taylor with an all-day movie marathon featuring the film Cleopatra beginning at 6a. Interspersed between the Cleopatra airings, the network will air a special Fox Legacy with Tom Rothman relating details on how the movie was made.  Fox Legacy will air at 8p and again at 1a.

Veteran reality show Survivor gets two more editions from CBS for the 2011-2012 season.  This renewal takes Survivor to its 23rd and 24th editions, making it television’s longest-running reality competition series.  Additionally, Jeff Probst agreed to continue as host and executive producer for these next two new editions.  This current edition, Survivor: Redemption Island is averaging 11.70 million viewers and a 3.4/10 rating/share among A18-49.  Survivor originally premiered on CBS in May 2000 and is produced by SEG, Inc. with Mark Burnett, Jeff Probst and David Burris serving as executive producers.

Charlie Sheen received a pink slip yesterday from Warner Bros. Television which ends his contract as star of Two and a Half Men on CBS.  Sheen had one more season left on his contract with Warner Bros. for the comedy series. The studio did not say what will happen to the sitcom in the future, keeping their released statement confined to their decision on the now former star: “After careful consideration, Warner Bros. Television has terminated Charlie Sheen’s services on Two and a Half Men effective immediately.”

Bravo is revamping the format of culinary competition series Top Chef Masters for its third season set to open on April 6 at 11p.  The show will feature 12 new chefs competing for the title of “Top Chef Master” and $100,000 for their charity of choice. What is new for the third season is the chefs will no longer be judged on a scale but in elimination style challenges similar to the original Top Chef.  Chef Curtis Stone was recently announced as the new host of the series, working alongside returning judge and culinary expert, James Oseland and new series judge, food critic/author, Ruth Reichl.  Several celebrity judges will also be featured during the season such as Christina Hendricks, Maroon 5 and Kelis among others.  After its premiere, Top Chef Masters will move to its regular time slot of 10p on April 13.

MTV wants more of Rob Dyrdek as the network brings back a fourth season of Rob Dyrdek’s Fantasy Factory beginning April 4 at 1030p.  Dyrdek will also host a new MTV series, Ridiculousness launching June 9 at 10p where Dyrdek will dish on amateur online videos in front of a studio audience with his friends, Johnny Knoxville, Travis Pastrana, Ryan Dunn and Big Black making appearances.

Rosie Pope, working as a maternity concierge for wealthy expectant mothers in New York City, is starring in a new docu-drama, Pregnant in Heels for Bravo.  The series, produced by Hud:son Media for Bravo, debuts April 5 at 10p.  British-born Rosie also created and designed her own fashion line for pregnant women called Rosie Pope Maternity and developed a training academy for mothers-to-be called MomPrep.  The Bravo series will follow Rosie as she preps upcoming moms on motherhood while managing her store on the Upper East Side along with her assistants Hannah and LT.

Rachelle Lefevre, familiar as star in the first two Twilight movies, landed a role on NBC’s post-Civil War era pilot The Crossing.  Lefevre will play Anna, a war widow raising her daughter in a Missouri border town and the love interest of the main character, the troubled veteran who comes to town.  Universal Media Studios is producing project along with Peter Horton and Josh Brand who are executive producing; Horton will also direct the pilot. Lefevre is also currently seen on ABC’s medical drama Off the Map.

Starting tonight, CNN is making changes to its 8p hour as Kathleen Parker co-host of Parker Spitzer announced her departure from the network on Friday to focus more on her writing.  The show will sport a new name, In the Arena and will continue to feature Eliot Spitzer each night as part of an ensemble format along with other newsmakers, guests and contributors.   Furthermore, CNN’s E.D. Hill and Will Cain are joining the program.  In the Arena will discuss the most important stories of the day through analysis from the panel that will provide a balanced, though varied points of view.  CNN said Kathleen Parker will continue to appear occasionally on CNN to offer her insights and commentary.

For Shonda Rhimes’ latest pilot project for ABC titled Damage Control, about real-life PR expert Judy Smith, Tony Goldwyn was added to the cast.  The project is about a crisis management pro (Kerry Washington) and her dysfunctional staff.  Goldwyn’s character is President Fitzgerald Grant.  Other actors previously cast in Damage Control include Guillermo Diaz, Columbus Short, Henry Ian Cusick and Katie Lowes.  Rhimes and Betsy Beers will serve as executive producers with Judy Smith as co-executive producer.  ABC Studios is producing.
