This statement from CBS was sent out late last evening in regard to future production of Two and a Half Men:  Based on the totality of Charlie Sheen’s statements, conduct and condition, CBS and Warner Bros. Television have decided to discontinue production of “Two and a Half Men” for the remainder of the season.

OWN moved quickly to grant a second six-episode season for its new docu-series Our America with Lisa Ling.  The series launched its inaugural season earlier this month and the second episode on Tuesday delivered a 0.51 rating among W25-54 and 733,000 total viewers.  The series is produced by part2pictures.

In anticipation of Sunday’s Academy Awards telecast, ABC extended its contract with the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences for six more years through 2020.   The current contract was due to expire in 2014 and this extension insures ABC will carry the Oscars for a total of 46 years.  This year marks ABC’s 36th consecutive telecast and Sunday’s 83rd Annual Academy Awards airs at 830p preceded by ABC’s live Red Carpet show at 7p.

The Academy of Television Arts and Sciences said yesterday it is combining the miniseries and made-for-TV-movie categories for the 2011 Primetime Emmy Awards.  The new merged category will also have six nominees rather than five.

In time for Britain’s Royal Wedding, Lifetime Television scheduled the world premiere of its Original Movie William & Kate on April 18 at 9p.  Directly following the movie, Lifetime debuts the one-hour docu-series Royal Wedding of a Lifetime at 11p.  The six-part series chronicles the romantic history of Prince William and Kate Middleton and also reveals the wedding preparations including the bridal gown and other fashions worn by Kate, the wedding cuisine and a preview of the actual event.  After its initial episode, Lifetime will air subsequent episodes of Royal Wedding of a Lifetime from 8p to 11p on April 21 and April 22. William & Kate is produced by The Konigsberg Company while docu-series Royal Wedding of a Lifetime is produced by Renegade Pictures (UK) LTD.

Actress/television personality La La Vazquez is readying a new docu-series for VH1 this summer relating her life following marriage to NBA Forward Carmelo Anthony who is now playing for the New York Knicks.  La La’s Full Court Life (wt) is in production now and is slated to premiere in August with 10 half-hour episodes.  VH1 had previously aired the special, La La’s Full Court Wedding featuring the couple which will air again on the network this Sunday at 7p and at 11p.  During those broadcasts, Vazquez will participate in a live chat with VH1 via Twitter.  La La’s Full Court Life is produced by 51 Minds Entertainment, an LLC Endemol Company as well as Krossover Entertainment and The Collective.

Also on Sunday, the 2011 NBA All-Star Game on TNT became the most-watched and highest-rated since 2003, drawing in 9.1 million total viewers, per Nielsen’s fast national ratings.  In 2003, TNT attracted 10.1 million viewers which was also the network’s first presentation of the event.  Furthermore on Saturday, TNT pulled in 8.1 million viewers for the NBA All-Star Saturday Night which became the most-watched telecast in the event’s 26-year history.  TNT’s two nights of NBA All-Star action averaged 17 million total viewers.

FOX’s Glee is the center of an agreement between Fox Television Stations and Twentieth Television over the broadcast syndication rights to the series.  Glee has cleared on the Fox Television Stations in New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Dallas, Washington, D.C., Houston, Minneapolis, Phoenix, Orlando and Baltimore.  This new syndication deal with Fox Television Stations follows the previously announced cable syndication agreement with Oxygen and the additional program The Glee Project premiering this June on Oxygen.  Glee is produced by Ryan Murphy Television in association with 20th Century Fox Television.

Roseanne Barr is making a comeback to television in a new untitled docu-series for Lifetime Television.  The series, with 16 half-hours will follow Barr as she operates her 40-acre macadamia nut and livestock farm in Hawaii.  Premiering on Lifetime this year, the series is produced by 3 Ball Productions/Eyeworks USA and Full Moon & High Tide Productions.  Barr will serve as executive producer along with JD Roth, Todd A. Nelson, Brant Pinvidic and Steven Greener; Jake Pentland will also produce.

Discovery Communications CEO David Zaslav said the company will invest a further $50 million in OWN: The Oprah Winfrey Network to create new programming.  Discovery Communications has already invested $189 million in the network which launched on January 1.  Zaslav says he is “very encouraged” about OWN and surmises the network will break even on an operating profit level this year.  Zaslav also indicated Planet Green is up for a re-brand saying he thinks “something else more meaningful” could happen with the network.

Actress Betty Garrett, known for roles in blockbuster MGM musical films and also in two popular 1970s television sitcoms, died Saturday at the age of 91.  After an early career on Broadway, Ms. Garrett made a contract agreement with MGM and starred in several musicals including “Neptune’s Daughter” and “On the Town” with Gene Kelly and Frank Sinatra.  Best known though, for two recurring 1970s television roles, Ms. Garrett played landlady Edna Babish on Laverne & Shirley and the Bunkers’ neighbor, Irene Lorenzo on All in the Family.

NBC is moving the return date for The Event, setting the two-hour episode now for March 7 at 8p.  It was originally scheduled to air the week before on February 28. Thereafter, the nine remaining episodes in the first season will air in its original Monday 9p time period.  The Event is also replacing midseason series The Cape which just had its original order cut back from 13 to 10 episodes due to low ratings.

Bravo heads to sunny Florida for the network’s newest The Real Housewives franchise when The Real Housewives of Miami debuts February 22 at 10p.  This new series follows six socially-connected and influential Miami women.  Bravo also is changing the fourth season launch date of The Real Housewives of New York City to later this spring.  The Real Housewives of Miami is produced by MC Filmworks for Bravo.

Representatives for Charlie Sheen, star of CBS’ Two and a Half Men said yesterday Sheen may be able to resume production on the sitcom at the end of this month.  The final decision to carry on with production though sits with Warner Bros. Television and executive producer Chuck Lorre.  Sheen recently entered rehab treatment at his home resulting in the sudden production halt of the comedy series last Friday.

The fifth and final season of Friday Night Lights will debut on NBC April 15 at 8p.  DirecTV is currently airing the high school football drama and will air the series finale next Wednesday.  In 2008, NBC and DirecTV struck a deal to save the drama series allowing DirecTV to air new episodes first followed by NBC.  Then in 2009, NBC ordered two additional seasons with 13-episodes each to carry on the agreement with DirecTV.

TV One presented its first official Upfront in New York City yesterday morning. The network highlighted its new talk/variety series for Black History Month, Way Black When and also confirmed the return of several other series later this year:

  • LisaRaye: The Real McCoy produced by Evolution Media premieres this spring.
  • Donald J. Trump Presents The Ultimate Merger produced by Trump Productions LLC and Juma Entertainment debuts in the summer.
  • Unsung is back with 12 new episodes airing this spring and fall.  A. Smith & Co. produces.
  • Life After premieres 10 new episodes this summer and is produced by K2 Pictures.
  • TV One continues to be the television home of the Trumpet Awards again this year airing in the spring.

TNT tapped original actors for its updated pilot version of Dallas that focuses on the sons of J.R. Ewing and Bobby Ewing as they battle for the future of the family oil dynasty.  Larry Hagman, Patrick Duffy and Linda Gray will all reprise their original roles of J.R. Ewing, Bobby Ewing and Sue Ellen Ewing respectively.  Josh Henderson was cast to play J.R. and Sue Ellen’s son John Ross and Jordana Brewster will play Elena, who is involved in a love triangle between John Ross and Christopher, the adopted son of Bobby and Pam Ewing.  Cynthia Cidre is penning the pilot script and the characters are based on those created by David Jacobs.  Warner Horizon Television is producing with Michael M. Robin directing and executive producing the pilot.

MTV said yesterday its animated 1990s series Beavis and Butt-Head will make a comeback on the network though no official date has been set.  The Mike Judge-created series, which originally aired from 1993-1997 will return to MTV’s schedule later this year.  Also yesterday, MTV will debut its new series Teen Wolf beginning June 5 following the MTV Movie Awards.

This month, OWN: Oprah Winfrey Network is adding two new series to its primetime lineup plus moving the premieres dates of two others:

  • Searching For … follows the work of Pam Slaton, a real-life professional investigative genealogist and stay-at-home mom and housewife living in New Jersey.  The series premieres February 14 at 9p and is produced by Stuart Krasnow Productions. 
  • Breaking Down the Bars from 44 Blue documents the transformation of a group of female prisoners doing time at the Rockville Correctional Facility in Indiana.   The series opens February 15 at 9p.
  • OWN is moving the series Our America with Lisa Ling to now premiere on February 15 at 10p and the acquired series What Would You Do? OWN Edition starting February 15 at 8p.

MTV debuts the new docu-series Son of a Gun chronicling the rising career of rapper Cory Gunz on April 28 at 11p.  The six-episode series follows Gunz as he struggles to succeed in the competitive music industry with help from his father and fellow rapper Peter Gunz and industry guru Nick Cannon.

BET and Centric both offer special programming throughout this month in honor of the Black History Month celebration. BET’s highlights include BET Honors on February 21 at 9p recognizing the achievements of outstanding African Americans; BET News is teaming with 106 & Park to present Modern Black History Heroes airing tonight at 6p; and BET will air a slew of black films including Tyler Perry’s Daddy’s Little Girls, Mr. 3000 and Sounder.  On Centric, the network will air Obama in Ghana on February 20 at 10p, a documentary following the first family’s historic trip to the Republic of Ghana.  Centric will also debut the 1986 miniseries Shaka Zulu beginning February 5 at 12p.
