The VMA Pre-Show additionally scored the highest viewer results on record with 7.3 million total viewers as well as 5.2 million with P12-34 and a 6.6 P12-34 rating.

And the newest cast of celebrities for Dancing with the Stars are …. Thought to be defunct sitcom, Breaking In starring Christian Slater may get a reprieve from FOX. The network is working on a 13-episode second season order for Breaking In which would be part of a bigger deal involving the show’s co-creator Adam F. Goldberg. Sony Pictures Television, the production studio behind Breaking In and another comedy project from Goldberg is tying the two sitcoms together in a package deal for FOX.

Long-time series Inside the NFL received a three-year extension from Showtime and NFL Films just as the series begins its fourth season on Showtime, reports Variety. The series first aired on HBO in 1977 and moved to Showtime in 2008. Featuring anchor James Brown along with ex pro NFLers Cris Collinsworth, Phil Simms and Warren Sapp as commentators, the series is produced by CBS Sports and NFL Films.

As ABC’s final broadcast date of daytime soap All My Children approaches (September 23), SOAPnet revealed plans to honor the multi-decade drama. On September 17 at 7p, SOAPnet will air a mini marathon of AMC episodes under the banner: I Love Lucci with five back-to-back episodes featuring Susan Lucci as Erica Kane. Late-night show Last Call with Carson Daly, currently airing on NBC at 135a, will also air on Fuse, the national music television network of The Madison Square Garden Company. Jimmy Kimmel’s real-life uncle, Frank Potenza known as “Uncle Frank” on ABC’s Jimmy Kimmel Live! died yesterday at the age of 77. Mr. Potenza was a former New York policeman, a Korean War veteran and security guard in Las Vegas. He joined his nephew’s show in 2003 as a security guard and on-air contributor and even re-located to Los Angeles to appear regularly on the show.

NBC picked up a one-hour wrestling drama from Jerry Bruckheimer and former pro wrestler-turned-actor Dwayne Johnson aka The Rock. Johnson is on board as an executive producer. NBC gave the period project about the world of wrestling in the 1980s a put pilot commitment. Jerry Bruckheimer Television in association with Warner Bros. Television is producing. Brent Fletcher and Seamus Kevin Fahey are co-executive producers and writers and KristieAnne Reed is also a co-executive producer. A single-camera comedy script from Sony Pictures Television and Adam Sandler’s company Happy Madison was nabbed by ABC, reports Variety. The comedy plot is set in 2016 about a guy who thinks his life is perfect until he’s struck by lightning which takes him back to the year 2011. Daniel Sweren-Becker is penning the script and he will be executive producer along with Doug Robinson and Steve Carr.

Rev. Al Sharpton lands an official role as host of a nightly talk forum on MSNBC. For several weeks, Sharpton has been guest hosting during the network’s Live at 6 p.m. show and yesterday the network said he will take over that time period as host permanently. Isaiah Mustafa was cast in a recurring role on ABC’s upcoming remake of Charlie’s Angels. Mustafa will play Det. The project is from ABC Studios and Sheldon Turner, co-writer of Up in the Air. Hyde is about Grant Hyde, a doctor with an eye condition who suffers from bizarre side effects after using an experimental antidote to improve his vision. When Grant goes to sleep, he becomes Hyde, a fearless individual who is the opposite of his personality. Turner will write and serve as executive producer along with Jennifer Klein through their newly-formed production company Vendetta.

NBC’s upcoming drama series The Firm began production last Thursday in Toronto.   • Don’t Tell the Bride is a reality series where cash-strapped couples are given $25,000 to create their dream wedding. The catch: the bride and groom are separated for three weeks while the groom must plan the entire wedding with no help from the bride. Caroline Rhea narrates the series produced by Shed Media U.S. and based on a series format from Renegade Pictures and Digital Rights Group. Premieres October 15 at 10p.
  • Ask Oprah’s All Stars, hosted by Gayle King is back for a new season featuring Dr. Phil, Suze Orman and Dr. Oz as they answer viewer questions about health, wealth and mental well-being. Produced by Stage 29 Productions, the series debuts October 16 at 8p.

Also in October, MTV premieres the new docu-series Chelsea Settles, a 12-episode series about Chelsea Settles, a 23-year old recent college grad who dreams of pursuing a fashion career in Los Angeles. Game show host, syndicated radio personality and author Steve Harvey is teaming with Endemol USA to star in a new talk show targeting a fall 2012 launch. Endemol has apparently talked with Harvey for nearly two years about hosting his own syndicated talk show. The format will showcase Harvey’s comedy as he chats with real people about their relationships. A pilot episode will be shot soon, executive produced by Harvey and his longtime business partner Rushion McDonald along with an in-house production group at Endemol. No studio has been selected yet, though Endemol will produce the talk show on the East Coast where Harvey currently hosts the syndicated game show Family Feud, distributed by Debmar-Mercury and produced by FremantleMedia North America, as well as his syndicated radio morning show, Steve Harvey Morning Show. Additionally, Harvey has authored two books and one titled Act Like a Lady, Think Like a Man, will be adapted into a feature film released in 2012.

TBS said yesterday it will not go forward with a third season of late night talk show, Lopez Tonight starring George Lopez. Tonight’s episode will also be the finale of the show. Lopez Tonight premiered on TBS in November 2009 and last year was moved back to air at midnight following Conan. The show averaged 546,000 total viewers according to Live + 7 ratings data during season two, a 40% decline from the first season. The network released a statement and said in part: “We are proud to have partnered with George Lopez, who is an immensely talented comedian and entertainer. TBS has valued its partnership with George and appreciates all of his work on behalf of the network, both on and off the air.”

Yesterday, Cablevision Systems Corporation and Viacom Inc. agreed to resolve litigation filed in the Southern District of New York pertaining to Cablevision’s Optimum Apps. As a result of the agreement, the two companies issued a joint statement: “Viacom and Cablevision have agreed to resolve their pending litigation, and the Viacom programming will continue to appear on Cablevision’s Optimum Apps for iPad and other IP devices. In reaching the settlement agreement, Cablevision and Viacom were able to resolve the iPad matter and an unrelated business matter to their mutual satisfaction. Neither side is conceding its original legal position or will have further comment.”

CBS harks back to the past by ordering a script for an updated version of the classic sitcom Bewitched from Sony Pictures Television. Married executive producers Douglas Wick and Lucy Fisher, behind the 2005 Bewitched film, will executive produce through their company Red Wagon. Marc Lawrence will write the script and also serve as executive producer.

ABC approved a game show pilot, The Exit List from Michael Davies, the former executive producer of Who Wants to Be a Millionaire. The Exit List, produced by Sony Pictures Television and Davies’ Embassy Row will follow contestants traveling through a maze of rooms filled with money. To collect the money, players must remember what they learned along the way as they attempt to find their way out. The project is based on a Dutch format from David Grifhorst and is in development in at least one other territory. The pilot will be filmed in New York next month.

NBC seems to be getting into the horror genre by approving a script order for Frankenstein. The project is a contemporary take on the legend of Frankenstein which originated in the 1818 novel by Mary Shelley. Executive producers Russel Friend and Garrett Lerner of FOX’s House are writing Frankenstein for Universal Media Studios and BermanBraun. Universal Studios holds the intellectual property rights to Frankenstein in addition to other classic horror characters as Dracula, the Wolfman and the Mummy.
