Full season orders were given to ABC frosh drama Revenge and new comedy Suburgatory after both did well Wednesday night. To date, Revenge has averaged a 2.8/7 and 8.5 million viewers while Suburgatory has averaged a 3.2/9 and 9.2 million viewers. ABC additionally gave sophomore comedy Happy Endings an order for six more scripts. Revenge is from ABC Studios; Suburgatory is produced by Warner Bros. Television; and Happy Endings is from Sony Pictures Television, Fan Fare Productions and ABC Studios.

New game show, Million Dollar Mind Game premieres on ABC October 23 at 4p. The show sports teams made up of six people who all know each other (co-workers, friends, teammates, etc.) and are challenged by a series of logic-based questions. The more questions the team answers correctly, the more money they will earn towards a grand prize which is potentially $1 million. British TV presenter Vernon Kay is the show’s host.

A four-year licensing deal was forged between CBS Corporation and Warner Bros. Television Group with Netflix. The agreement allows US Netflix subscribers to instantly watch previous seasons of scripted shows from The CW from its present schedule through the 2014-2015 season. The four-year output deal gives Netflix the rights to stream more than 700 hours of previous-season episodes of The CW dramas as well as future programs. The rights deal extends for four years after each series, current or future, ends its broadcast run on The CW. The network’s content can also be accessed through traditional syndication windows, electronic sell-through services and on a partial-season basis through authenticated cable providers. Programs from The CW available to Netflix members include the eight dramas on the network’s 2011 schedule: frosh series Ringer, Hart of Dixie and The Secret Circle as well as returning shows The Vampire Diaries, Gossip Girl, 90210, Supernatural, Nikita and the midseason series One Tree Hill. Starting October 15, previous seasons of The Vampire Diaries, Gossip Girl, One Tree Hill and Nikita will be available for instant watching while previous seasons of Supernatural and 90210 will be available in January 2012. Episodes of all scripted series airing on The CW currently will be available to Netflix members in Fall 2012. All future episodes of the scripted series on The CW through the 2014-2015 season will be available via streaming from Netflix through an upcoming window.

After a bidding war, NBC was the victor on Ryan Murphy’s new comedy at 20th Century Fox Television. NBC gave the untitled project a put pilot commitment with a high penalty and details on the plot are kept secret for now. Murphy will serve as EP and will write along with Glee co-EP Allison Adler and Glee EP Dante Di Loreto.

Ellen DeGeneres also has a project in the works at ABC, a comedy titled Weitz & Wong. ABC gave it a script order and the plot centers on a mixed race Jewish-Chinese couple and their two kids who try to create their own identity amidst very different extended families. DeGeneres is producing through her A Very Good Productions company at Warner Bros. Television. Alex Herschlag, the former writer on Ellen will write this new comedy.

Returning sitcom Rules of Engagement moves to Thursday nights beginning October 20 at 830p on CBS coinciding with the series’ sixth season premiere. Starting October 15, frosh comedy How To Be A Gentleman flips to Saturdays at 830p. CBS also announced it has halted production on further episodes of How To Be A Gentleman and the remaining seven episodes will air on Saturday nights sandwiched between repeats of Two and a Half Men and CSI: Miami. In the meantime, an encore of The Big Bang Theory will air this Thursday at 830p following a new episode of the sitcom at 8p.

The longest-running scripted show in television history, The Simpsons was renewed by FOX through season 25. Currently in its 23rd season, The Simpsons will be back for a 24th and a 25th season totaling 559 episodes. After the MLB American League Championship Series and World Series games, The Simpsons will resume on FOX with all-new episodes starting October 30 at 8p with a special Halloween episode. The Simpsons is a Gracie Films Production in association with 20th Century Fox Television.

CEO Bob Iger will be staying with the Walt Disney Co. through June 2016 as part of the company’s succession planning process. Iger’s title will be further enhanced next March when he also becomes Chairman following the retirement of present Chairman John E. Pepper. Further, Disney has started planning for Iger’s replacement, establishing the timeframe as March 31, 2015 when a new CEO will be announced.

A multi-year licensing deal was reached between Netflix Inc. and AMC Networks Inc. involving AMC’s original series The Walking Dead. As of last Friday, season one of The Walking Dead will be available to Netflix members in the US and Canada. Other seasons of The Walking Dead in addition to other future AMC and Sundance Channel shows will be available via instant streaming to Netflix members just before the premiere of the seasons. Netflix also licensed non-exclusive rights in the US to specific scripted and unscripted shows which will be available just prior to the following season premiere. This programming will come from AMC, IFC, Sundance Channel and WE tv and will include such series as IFC’s Portlandia and The Increasingly Poor Decisions of Todd Margaret; WE tv’s Braxton Family Values, My Fair Wedding and Bridezillas; and Sundance Channel’s All On the Line with Joe Zee and Girls Who Like Boys Who Like Boys.

Will and Jada Pinkett Smith, along with the couple’s business partner James Lassiter sold a multi-camera comedy project to ABC. The Untitled Romeo Project will star singer Anthony “Romeo” Santos and will be produced by ABC Studios and their Overbrook Entertainment company. The project is about a charismatic Dominican-American (Romeo) from Washington Heights who tries to please his traditional immigrant father while also creating a new life for himself while seeking the American Dream. Arthur C. Nielsen, Jr. the TV ratings pioneer and Chairman of the A.C. Nielsen Company died on Monday at the age of 92. Mr. Nielsen’s father founded the company in 1923 and invented the ratings system though the younger Mr. Nielsen was the driving force that made Nielsen a household name. Mr. Nielsen joined the company in 1945 following his service in World War II. After witnessing the importance of computer technology during the war, he convinced his father to invest in building the first general-purpose computer, the Univac. This spirit of innovation and enterprise helped him grow the company’s income from under $4 million per year when he was named President in 1957 to more than $680 million under his watch. Mr. Nielsen retired from his company in 1983 and following in 1984 the company was acquired by Dun & Bradstreet Company. D&B split Nielsen into two separate companies in 1996, Nielsen Media Research encompassing TV ratings and AC Nielsen, specializing in consumer shopping trends and box-office data. The Dutch publishing company, VNU acquired Nielsen Media Research in 1999 and re-combined the two entities when it bought AC Nielsen in 2001.

Younger male-skewing network, G4 is partnering with the US Navy on a new docu-series, Bomb Patrol: Afghanistan launching October 25 at 10p. The 10-episode series will allow viewers to be embedded with Navy soldiers in Afghanistan working as part of the US Navy’s Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team, the world’s elite combat force for countering Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs), WMD and other weapons. The series will use more than 15 cameras mounted on helmets and on the bodies of the soldiers to capture the eight-man team’s five-month tour. In the past there were two other Valley of the Dolls TV adaptations, a miniseries in 1981 and a primetime soap that lasted one season in 1994.

A legal drama titled Legacy makes its way to CBS from Jericho co-creator Jon Steinberg who is partnering with author James Frey and DreamWorks Television. The project has a large penalty attached and is produced by CBS TV Studios. The plot is about a one-term president who, after not winning his re-election campaign, returns to his hometown law firm where he can cheery pick the cases that really matter to him. Kate Burton, known for her role as Meredith’s (Ellen Pompeo) mother on ABC’s Grey’s Anatomy landed the role of Vice President of the US on the midseason drama Scandal from Shonda Rhimes.
