MTV2 has commenced production on a reality series featuring musician and entrepreneur Mac Miller and his four best friends as they depart from their hometown of Pittsburgh, PA and move to L.A.  The series will star Mac and his “Most Dope” crew as the rapper/producer puts the final touches on his new album, Watching Movies with the Sound Off.  The six-part series will premiere during first quarter 2013 on MTV2.   The network also set the season three premiere date of MTV2’s Guy Code for January 15 at 11p.

Travel Channel set the premiere date for its new original series Armed & Ready with double episodes on February 26 at 10p and 1030p.  The series follows author, photographer and self-proclaimed thrill seeker Kevin Michael Connolly, as he pushes himself to the limit using his amazing arm strength since he can’t use his legs.  Connolly creates new rigs to travel anywhere and to conquer anything without using his wheelchair or prosthetics.  The series, produced by Crazy Legs Productions for Travel Channel has a total of six half-hour episodes.

Nat Geo WILD premieres a new series featuring dog behaviorist Cesar Millan in Cesar Millan’s Leader of the Pack on January 5 at 10p.  Millan’s goal in this new series is to combat the global issue of dog abandonment and giving “unadoptable” dogs a second chance at a new life.  Leader of the Pack is produced for Nat Geo WILD by POWWOW Media Partners.  Also on January 5 at 9p, Nat Geo WILD brings back its top series The Incredible Dr. Pol for a third season.  The series follows skilled veterinarian, Dr. Jan Pol who comes to the rescue helping farm animals to house pets with his old-school, no-nonsense approach to veterinary medicine.  The Incredible Dr. Pol is produced by National Geographic Television for Nat Geo WILD.

A second season of Steven Seagal’s original drama series True Justice premieres January 4 at 9p and 11p on REELZCHANNEL.  The crime-fighting series starring Seagal as Elijah Kane head of the Special Investigations Unit will have 13 all-new episodes.  Joining the cast in season two is Adrian Holmes playing CIA operative Marcus Mitchell who recruits Kane to work as an operative to take out a high-level target that the CIA cannot go after in a traditional way.

The CW approved two new reality shows for its development slate: The Hunt is a one-hour competition series from David Garfinkle, Jay Renfroe and Greg Goldman and is described as an “intense wilderness competition.”  The Hunt’s action takes place over one month as 12 teams of two are provided no food, water or shelter but must compete in a game where they rely on their physicality, survival skills and hunting skills to win.  Renegade 83 and Blackbird Television are producing in association with Warner Horizon.  The CW’s second reality project is the half-hour Perfect Score giving participants a chance to win a date but also the opportunity to win cash if they can successfully identify their perfect match.  Scott St. John created the show and will serve as EP.  FremantleMedia North America is producing.  Premiere dates will be announced in the near future.

FX’s upcoming period spy drama The Americans added Margo Martindale (Justified) for a minimum of eight episodes.  Martindale will play a Russian spy living in the US and her character Claudia is a liaison between the KGB and the central spies Phillip (Matthew Rhys) and Elizabeth (Keri Russell).  The 13-episode first season will debut January 30 on FX.

Broadcast veteran Gerard “Gerry” Mulderrig passed away at the age of 82.  Mr. Mulderrig will be best remembered as the architect of a programming and sales strategy that transformed New York’s WPIX-TV from a struggling independent television station into a major competitor with sports and entertainment programming in the country’s largest TV market. Time Warner is having talks with former NBC executive Jeff Zucker to possibly become the head of CNN.  The cable news network’s current president, Jim Walton announced plans of his departure last summer and Zucker could be appointed to fill the position in the next several days.  Previously Zucker served as executive producer of NBC’s Today show and then moved up to become a senior network executive at NBC.  When Comcast acquired control of NBCUniversal in 2011, Zucker then lost his position as CEO.  At the present time Zucker is executive producer of Katie Couric’s new syndicated daytime talk show, Katie.

FOX is shifting the second season premiere date of its adventure drama series Touch again to February 8 at 8p instead of February 1.  The network had originally set Touch’s season premiere date for October 26.  FOX will air a two-hour season two premiere of Touch, starring Kiefer Sutherland where the action moves from New York to Los Angeles.   Touch is a production of Chernin Entertainment and Tailwind Productions in association with 20th Century Fox Television.  FOX will also air the remaining episodes of The Mob Doctor prior to the premiere of new midseason series The Following on January 21.  The Mob Doctor’s final four eps will air at 9p on December 29, December 31, January 5 and January 7.

Two new comedies are set to premiere in mid-January on BET.  Comedian and actor Kevin Hart partners with BET Networks on Real Husbands of Hollywood, a semi-scripted show described as the “fakest reality show ever” that follows men of Hollywood in their surreal lives.  The cast includes Kevin Hart, Nick Cannon, husband of Mariah Carey, Boris Kodjoe, husband of actress Nicole Ari Parker, Duane Martin, husband of actress Tisha Campbell-Martin, J.B. Smoove, husband of singer Shahidah Omar and Robin Thicke, husband of actress Paula Patton.  Real Husbands of Hollywood premieres January 15 at 10p.  Then new scripted comedy Second Generation Wayans will debut at 1030p also on January 15.  This half-hour show stars Damien Dante Wayans, Craig Wayans, George O. Gore II and Tatyana Ali and viewers will see the two Wayans emerge from the shadows of their uncles to carve their own path to stardom in Hollywood.

FX has set the 2013 midseason premiere dates for several of its series: the season four premiere of Justified opens on January 8 at 10p; comedy series Anger Management, starring Charlie Sheen will return January 17 at 9p with two back-to-back episodes and the series will settle in its 930p slot the following week.  Also on January 17, Archer returns with a fourth season at 10p followed at 1030p by new original series Legit, starring Australian comedian Jim Jeffries.  As previously announced, FX will air the new cycle of Totally Biased with W. Kelly) attracted a combined audience of more than 1.5 million total viewers and 899,000 among A18-49 last Friday.  The night consisted of the digitally remastered previous chapters as well as all-new chapters.  The new chapters premiered from 9-10p and delivered 780,000 total viewers.

A first-look production deal was forged between NBC and America’s Got Talent host Nick Cannon and his production company, NCredible Entertainment.  Cannon and his business partner Michael Goldman will develop both scripted and unscripted projects for the network.  The deal also has Cannon remaining as host of America’s Got Talent when the show returns next summer.

Tuesday night’s election TV coverage put NBC on top among the broadcast networks, based preliminarily on fast affiliate returns from Nielsen.  NBC posted 12.56 million viewers followed by ABC with 11.15 million and CBS with 8.42 million.  Among the cable news networks, FOX News Channel (FNC) was first during primetime with 11.45 million viewers between 8-11p with CNN next at 9.25 million viewers and MSNBC with 4.67 million.  FNC also had the highest peak viewership at an average of 11.8 million between 10-11p.  With A25-54 viewers, CNN scored with 4.57 million with FNC in second at 4.45 million and MSNBC at 1.99 million in the demo.  Though from the 7p to 2a seven-hour block, which encompassed the state returns to Governor Mitt Romney’s concession speech and ending with President Barack Obama’s victory speech, it was CNN that did best overall with an average of 8.84 million total viewers though FNC was not too far behind with 8.7 million total viewers and MSNBC pulled in 4.6 million.

As the third season of PBS’ MASTERPIECE drama series Downton Abbey draws closer, a retrospective of seasons one and two will air as Downton Abbey Revisited on November 25 at 8p.  The 90-minute show will feature Dame Maggie Smith, Elizabeth McGovern, Hugh Bonneville, Dan Stevens, Michelle Dockery, Siobhan Finneran and other cast members as they comment on key scenes from the first two seasons and interviews with the actors and crew along with never-before-seen footage.  The program is hosted by self-professing Downton Abbey fan, Angela Lansbury.  An encore of Downton Abbey Revisited will air later on November 25 at 930p (check local listings).  PBS will premiere season three of Downton Abbey on MASTERPIECE January 6.
