Discovery event Shark Week moves from August to July 5-12 for 2015, and the net is saving some all-new programming for a special shark weekend later in the summer, too. Content includes an expedition to Cuba, sequels to favorites like Air Jaws and new technology to capture shark images. Why the move to July? “This event is so synonymous with summer I thought why not kick off true summer, which is July 4th, with this blockbuster,” said net president Rich Ross.

Viacom’s Nickelodeon group is launching a direct-to-consumer subscription service, but we’ll have to wait until an Upfront presentation in February for the details, Viacom CEO Philippe Dauman said on Thursday. A Disney princess from a kingdom inspired by Latin cultures will be introduced on Disney Junior’s Sofia the First, then get a province of her own when Elena of Avalor launches in 2016. “Our creative team has delivered a universal story with themes that authentically reflect the hopes and dreams of our diverse audience,” said Nancy Kanter, EVP and GM, Disney Junior Worldwide.
