James Corden got the Late Late Show gig. The British actor (Begin Again)/writer/host/producer’s name had been bandied about for months as a possible replacement for Craig Ferguson, who’s signing off in December, and CBS made it official on Monday. “James Corden is a rare entertainment force who combines irresistible charm, warmth and originality with a diverse range of creative instincts and performance talent,” said Nina Tassler, chairman, CBS Entertainment. “We’re very excited to introduce his considerable and very unique talents to our network television audience on a daily basis.”

Twentieth Century Fox Television Distribution struck a multi-year streaming deal with Sohu Video for the Fox comedy animated comedy, including season 26, premiering in the U.S. Sunday, September 28 at 8p. A former intern at The Late Show with David Letterman filed a class action complaint, on behalf of herself and everyone else who has been an intern on the show, against CBS Broadcasting, CBS Corp. and Worldwide Pants. The complaint seeks “all compensation, including minimum wages and overtime compensation, which they were deprived of, plus interest, and attorney’s fees and costs.” An intern in 2008, Mallory Musallam’s contention that the show was in violation of New York State Labor Law mirrors similar recent claims in the media business.

Football didn’t hurt the season finale of ABC’s Wipeout, up 33 percent week to week to hit a .8 rating/2 share among A18-49. CBS’s Big Brother was also up, getting a 15 percent lift week-to-week in the demo, to 2.3. The premiere of Fox’s Utopia averaged a 1.9/6 in A18-49, with 4.6 million viewers, falling from 6.2 million total viewers to 3.8 million at 9:30, but beating Brother among A18-34, 2.0 versus 1.5.
