Yesterday morning during NBC News’ Today, Meredith Vieira placed the official stamp on her future plans, saying she is leaving Today next month.  Ann Curry, who has been with Today since 1997, will take Vieira’s place as co-host with Matt Lauer and Natalie Morales will step into Curry’s place as newsreader.

Two more animated comedies received renewal orders from FOX as Family Guy will return for a tenth season and The Cleveland Show for a fourth season.  Both shows fall under the network’s Animation Domination block on Sunday nights and are produced by 20th Century Fox Television.  Seth MacFarlane is the creator/executive producer of Family Guy while MacFarlane along with Mike Henry and Rich Appel are executive producers and co-creators of The Cleveland Show.

Clan Kardashian is back with a sixth season of Keeping Up with the Kardashians on E! premiering June 12 at 10p.  Throughout the 12-episode new season, the Kardashian family sets a goal of spending more quality time  together which encourages the revelation of many secrets.  Ryan Seacrest Productions and Bunim-Murray Productions produce the series.

MTV Networks made a global distribution deal with Passion Distribution involving the fourth season of MTV’s Rob Dyrdek’s Fantasy Factory.  Passion Distribution has previously sold seasons one through three of the half-hour series to MTV Networks in Australia and New Zealand, Extreme Sports Channel in the UK, Europe, Middle East and Africa, MNET in South Africa and Solar in the Philippines.

Like mother, like daughter, Bristol Palin gets her own docu-reality series on BIO Channel scheduled to premiere later this year with ten half-hour episodes.  The new BIO Channel untitled series follows Palin as she moves from Alaska to Los Angeles with her son, Tripp where she has a new job at a small charity and moves in with her friends Kyle and Chris Massey. Palin appeared on ABC’s Dancing with the Stars will fellow celebrity contestant, Kyle Massey where the pair along with Kyle’s brother, Chris all became friends.  Single mom, Palin allows cameras to have exclusive access to her personal life as she makes these life-changing moves.  Associated Television International is producing the series for BIO.

A major executive shake-up occurred at OWN: The Oprah Winfrey Network as the network’s president, Christina Norman has exited after having been tasked with launching the channel.  Chief executive at Discovery Communications, David Zaslav said to investors last week that OWN had a “slower start” than expected.  Oprah Winfrey said in an interview with EW on Friday: “[OWN] is not where I want it to be.”  OWN debuted January 1, 2011 and its mix of reality and talk shows plus films on a total day basis has marginally exceeded the channel it replaced, Discovery Health.  During primetime, OWN has averaged 297,000 viewers, to Discovery Health’s 250,000.

Effective immediately, Peter Liguori, COO with Discovery Communications will act as interim CEO of OWN: The Oprah Winfrey Network through at least the end of 2011 until a replacement is found for exiting president Christina Norman.  The network addressed Liguori’s appointment as reflecting “a transition from a launch phase to a more long-term focus on business and creative strategy, development and execution following the network’s debut on January 1, 2011.”  Liguori will continue as COO for Discovery Communications and will head OWN as the network serves up a roster of new and original content including the talk show helmed by Rosie O’Donnell premiering in October and the opening of Oprah’s Next Chapter in early 2012.

The X Factor, the upcoming singing competition series from Simon Cowell for FOX, signed deals with both Nicole Scherzinger and Steve Jones to become hosts.  Scherzinger is a former lead singer for the Pussycat Dolls and also appeared on ABC’s Dancing with the Stars, while Jones is a British television personality.  Also on tap as the fourth judge is Paula Abdul which reunites her with Cowell.  The deal involving Abdul as judge was finalized less than 24 hours before the first audition taping of The X Factor on Sunday in Los Angeles.

Health and wellness guru, Jillian Michaels (NBC’s The Biggest Loser) agreed to a multi-year agreement to join the experts as co-host on the daytime series The Doctors produced by Stage 29 Productions and distributed by CBS Television Distribution (CTD).  The Doctors began in 2008 and the professional experts include ER physician Dr. Travis Stork; OB/GYN Dr. Lisa Masterson; cosmetic and reconstructive surgeon Dr. Drew Ordon; and pediatrician Dr. Jim Sears.  Furthermore, Michaels will become a special correspondent on Dr. Phil, also distributed by CTD, where she will report on lifestyle topics.

Past Happy Days and Charles in Charge star, Scott Baio has a new comedy series in the works for Nick at Nite.  The sitcom titled Daddy’s Home is about a stay-at-home dad whose soap opera wife wants to pursue the spotlight.  Jason Hervey and Baio will executive produce and the series is written by Tina Albanese and Pat Labyoteaux.

Veteran actor Charles S. Dutton landed a role in FX’s drama pilot Powers, playing Captain Cross, the head of a homicide police unit where two detectives, Christian Walker and Deena Pilgrim investigate crimes involving superpowers.  Powers is based on the Image Comics series by Brian Michael Bendis and is produced by Sony Pictures Television and FX Productions.  Charles H. Eglee is adapting the comic for television.  Dutton is well-known for his 1990s lead role in FOX’s dramedy series Roc.
