Fox News Channel celebrates its 25th anniversary today, October 7. It’s a date that has special meaning for Jon Scott, anchor of “Fox Report” and an FNC original. “I’ve been a journalist for 41 years, 25 of them at Fox—I was part of the Fox anchor team on Day One”. “It’s astounding to me to look back at how far we’ve come. The established networks wouldn’t let us into the White House coverage pool in those early days because they didn’t think we were big enough to handle the responsibility. Now we’re beating them on a regular basis—and yes, we’re now in the pool. But I don’t think our success has gone to our heads. We’re not sitting in an ivory tower in Manhattan boasting about being #1; we’re just like the Americans whose stories we cover. We work hard. We believe in honesty and treating others with respect. We think ours is the greatest nation in the history of the world, and we hope that by shining a light on its government and people, we can participate in keeping America great.”

One day after Ozy Media founder/CEO Carlos Watson told “Today” that the decision to shutter his company had been reversed, he sent an open letter to the “Ozy family,” saying he “deeply regrets” mistakes that hurt his team, investors and partners. “As deeply proud as I am of the work that our team has done, I also wish we had done many things differently,” he wrote. Likely more concerning to Facebook than its technical trouble was yesterday’s Senate hearing with Facebook whistleblower Frances Haugen. The former product manager discussed internal documents stating that Facebook and Instagram can be addictive and harmful to children, and that Instagram damages the mental health and body image of teenagers. But despite her accusation that the company has chosen profit over safety, Haugen stopped short of saying the company be broken up. Instead, she suggested, “They need to admit they did something wrong, and they need help to solve these problems.”
(Source: Cynopsis)

In response, Lena Pietsch, Director of Policy Communications for Facebook, noted that Haugen worked for the company for less than two years, and did not work on the subject matter in question. “We don’t agree with her characterization of the many issues she testified about,” said Pietsch. “Despite all this, we agree on one thing; it’s time to begin to create standard rules for the internet. It’s been 25 years since the rules for the internet have been updated, and instead of expecting the industry to make societal decisions that belong to legislators, it is time for Congress to act.”
