Summer is on the horizon for CBS as it brings back a new run of Big Brother debuting July 7 at 9p. Big Brother, hosted by Julie Chen, will air weekly on three nights: Wednesdays at 8p starting July 13; the live eviction show on Thursdays at 9p beginning July 14; and Sundays at 8p opening July 10.  CBS further slated its new one-hour reality series Same Name to launch July 24 at 9p which forms a two-hour reality block on Sundays along with Big Brother.

Sunday’s premiere of Why Not? With Shania Twain on OWN : Oprah Winfrey Network at 11p marked the network’s highest-rated debut to date beyond its launch weekend.  Why Not? With Shania Twain posted a 0.80 rating among W25-54 and 839,000 total viewers.  Prior to Shania Twain’s series debut at 10p, the finale episode of The Judds pulled in a 0.48 rating with W25-54 and 555,000 total viewers. Why Not? With Shania Twain moves this Sunday to its regular time slot of 10p.

Colin Hanks added to the cast of Showtime’s drama series Dexter for the entire sixth season.  Hanks will play Travis, an expert specializing in ancient artifacts who gets mired in a series of Miami murders.  Production on the new season begins next month in Los Angeles with a planned fall premiere.

CBS News announced Scott Pelley will become anchor and managing editor of CBS Evening News.  As of June 6, the news broadcast will be re-titled as CBS Evening News with Scott Pelley.  Pelley will also continue to report stories for 60 Minutes.  For CBS News, Pelley has covered breaking national news, politics, wars and has been the network’s chief White House correspondent.  He has reported for 60 Minutes since 2004 where his stories have won numerous major awards.

Yesterday Katie Couric made it official saying she will leave her anchor position with CBS Evening News when her contract expires June 4.  The timing of Couric’s departure announcement allows the network a month to introduce a new evening news anchor.  CBS News will likely reveal Couric’s replacement next week following its coverage of the Royal Wedding with Couric anchoring in London.  Though what exactly Couric will do next is still up in the air and that announcement is expected in the next few weeks.

New 30m sketch-comedy series, In the Flow with Affion Crockett hosted by and starring comedian Affion Crockett will premiere on FOX August 14 at 9p with a special one-hour episode.  Late-night airings are scheduled for Saturdays at midnight starting August 20 and the series will slide into its regular time slot of 930p Sundays on August 21.  The series is billed as similar to FOX’s classic In Living Color and Crockett’s new show, executive produced by Jamie Foxx will offer spoofs of pop culture, movie trailers, commercials, TV shows, music videos and celebrities.  Many guest stars will appear during the season including Snoop Dogg, Russell Simmons, Chris Brown and Harry Shum Jr. among others. In the Flow with Affion Crockett is produced by Fox Television Studios, Foxx/King Entertainment and Tantamount Studios.

New reality series Ice Loves Coco debuts on E! June 12 at 1030p.  The eight-episode half-hour series goes inside the ten-year marriage of rapper/actor/author Ice-T and his fitness/swimsuit model wife Coco as they balance their careers and marriage.  Ice Loves Coco is created and produced by Comcast Entertainment Studios.

Tyler Perry lands another new series on TBS as the network ordered the 10-episode dramedy series Tyler Perry’s For Better or Worse aiming at young adults.  The series is based on Perry’s popular films Why Did I Get Married? and is his third series for TBS which also airs Tyler Perry’s House of Payne and Meet the Browns.  Tyler Perry’s For Better or Worse centers on the married life of Marcus and Angela, two characters from his films Why Did I Get Married? and Why Did I Get Married Too? Michael Jai White and Tasha Smith will star in the television series reprising their roles from the films.  Other cast members will be announced later. For Better or Worse will follow the syndication pattern of Perry’s other two TBS series and will be sold by Debmar Mercury.  Atlanta-based Tyler Perry Studios is producing the series.

FOX’s derailed comedy Running Wilde starring Will Arnett and Keri Russell will have its final four episodes air on FX on Thursdays at 10p beginning April 28.   FOX took the comedy off its schedule during November sweeps and also opted to not give the series a full-season pick-up.  During last January’s Television Critics Association press tour, FOX’s President/Entertainment Kevin Reilly said then Running Wilde will not be returning to the network’s schedule.

Reports are circulating another high-profile broadcast anchor may soon leave her post. Despite news about her pending departure from CBS News, the network said yesterday Katie Couric will lead its live coverage of Britain’s Royal Wedding later this month on April 29.  The Early Show co-anchor Erica Hill will also contribute reports from outside Buckingham Palace on the wedding day and later that night, Couric will host a one-hour primetime special titled The Royal Wedding: Modern Majesty.  Couric will arrive in London and begin her reporting on April 27 while Hill will co-anchor The Early Show from London starting April 25.

Paul Reiser makes a comeback on series television playing himself in the new NBC comedy, The Paul Reiser Show premiering April 14 at 830p.  Reiser’s new show takes over the timeslot currently occupied by Perfect Couples which is being removed by the network though official word of its status and when remaining episodes will air have not been announced. Originally, Perfect Couples was going to continue until its finale set for May 5. Bonanza Productions Inc. in association with Nuance Productions and Warner Bros. Television produce The Paul Reiser Show.

A fourth season is lined up for drama series Southland as TNT ordered 10 new episodes of the cop procedural.  During its third season which concluded March 8, Southland averaged 2.9 million total viewers, a +6% rise over the previous season.  Southland is from John Wells Productions in association with Warner Bros. Television.  TNT additionally approved the ABC Studios drama series Perception headlined by Eric McCormack about a neuroscientist who delves into complicated criminal cases.  TNT gave Perception a 10-episode order.

Yankee fans get the chance to watch 21 season games on WWOR-TV/My9, the exclusive local broadcast home of The New York Yankees.  This 2011 MLB season marks the seventh consecutive year WWOR/My9 broadcasts Yankees games. Broadway’s Kristen Chenoweth (Wicked, Promises Promises) lands a role on ABC’s drama pilot Good Christian Bitches.  The project is in development at ABC from Darren Star.  Chenoweth portrays Darlene in the primetime soap set in Dallas.  Previously cast for the drama include Leslie Bibb as Amanda; Jennifer Aspen as Sharon; Annie Potts as Gigi; Miriam Shor as Cricket; and Marisol Nicholas as Heather.
