Two more series were picked up by NBC for this fall: White House sitcom pilot 1600 Penn received a series order for 13 episodes starring Bill Pullman as the President of the US and Jenna Elfman as the First Lady and stepmother to the POTUS’ children. 1600 Penn was created and also stars Josh Gad who plays the president’s out-of-control eldest son. NBC also approved the comedy Animal Practice (formerly titled Animal Kingdom) about a curmudgeonly veterinarian who loves animals but usually dislikes their owners. Justin Kirk and Tyler Labine star in Animal Practice.

TNT is moving forward with a new medical drama series from producer David E. Kelley (Ally McBeal, Chicago Hope) titled Monday Mornings. The series is based on the book by Dr. Sanjay Gupta, M.D., a practicing neurosurgeon and CNN’s chief medical correspondent. The drama’s ensemble cast includes Ving Rhames, Alfred Molina, Jamie Bamber, Jennifer Finnigan, Bill Irwin, Keong Sim, Sarayu Rao and Emily Swallow. TNT has ordered 10 episodes for the first season and has slated the series to premiere in summer 2013. Monday Mornings, produced by TNT Originals and David E. Kelley Productions, is set at the fictional Chelsea General Hospital in Portland, OR and follows the lives of doctors as they confront personal and professional losses. Kelley and Gupta both serve as executive producers on the series and Bill D’Elia was an EP on the pilot episode as well as the director; Kelley also penned the pilot. In addition, TNT is working with Turner Broadcasting System International, Inc. to produce this global series. Monday Mornings will air on TNT as well as Turner networks worldwide and will be distributed by TBS International outside the US and Canada.

Independent producer and distributor Entertainment Studios, Inc. finalized the cast for its new sitcom, Mr. Box Office debuting this fall. The pilot episode is now complete starring Bill Bellamy, Jon Lovitz, Vivica A. Fox, Keshia Knight Pulliam, Rick Fox, Gary Busey and Tim Meadows. Entertainment Studios ordered 104 episodes of the comedy about a big movie star (Bellamy) who is sentenced to community service teaching English at an inner-city high school in South Central L.A. Production on the full series will begin this summer for its planned fall 2012 launch.

Supermodel Naomi Campbell headlines a new reality competition series on Oxygen called The Face. Campbell will be one of three supermodel coaches who will have responsibility for mentoring and training the contestants. The show will feature three teams of models, each one led by a supermodel coach. The trio of supermodel coaches will scout and choose their teams from aspiring young models worldwide before guiding them through various assignments, photo shoots, runway shows and teaching them the tricks of the industry. At the end of the series’ run, one girl will be selected to become “The Face” of a major national brand gaining a contract as the brand ambassador. The two other supermodel coaches will be announced soon. Shine America is producing The Face.

HBO is close to finalizing a deal involving an eight-episode drama series True Detective starring Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson playing detectives which would be an ongoing anthology series for the premium network. True Detective, written by Nic Pizzolatto (The Killing) is about two detectives whose lives become intertwined while investigating a 17-year old case involving a serial killer in Louisiana. McConaughey will play Det. Rust Cohle and Harrelson’s character is Det. Martin Hart. Subsequent seasons of True Detective will use the same premise but involve new characters and a new story. McConaughey and Harrelson have starred together in two feature films, Edtv and Surfer, Dude though this will be their first TV collaboration.

Production has begun on a sixth edition of Rehab with Dr. Drew on VH1. Instead of helping celebrities, the new season will focus attention on alcohol and drug addiction among young adults. NBC ordered seven episodes of a new unscripted series starring Howie Mandel, titled Howie Mandel’s White Elephant. The series will be based on the well-known holiday game where contestants will select one package from a collection of wrapped gifts containing millions of dollars in prizes. The individual contestant would then have to decide to steal a previously revealed prize or keep their unopened box. The contestant holding the least valuable prize at the end of each round will be eliminated. Mandel will be the host of the series in addition to serving as EP along with Alevy Productions’ Mike Marks. Production has not yet started and a premiere date was not given.

Director/actor Robert Redford and producing partner Laura Michalchyshyn have established Sundance Productions, a new production company concentrating on television and multi-media content. The new entity will focus on creating, developing and producing fiction and non-fiction programming to be distributed via broadcast and cable TV, digital platforms and channels. One of the original programs Sundance Productions has on the docket is the documentary All The President’s Men Revisited. The two-hour documentary special was commissioned by Discovery Channel worldwide. Redford would narrate and serve as EP along with Andy Lack and Michalchyshyn. A January 2013 premiere is planned.

British actress Laura Haddock landed the role of Lucrezia Donati, the mistress of Lorenzo Medici and lover of Leonardo da Vinci in the upcoming original series Da Vinci’s Demons for STARZ. Haddock will play opposite Tom Riley who was previously cast as Leonardo da Vinci. The series is a joint production and the first project under the multi-year deal between Starz Entertainment and BBC Worldwide Productions. Production will commence this summer and STARZ will debut the eight-part series in the US in 2013. BBC Worldwide will distribute the series in most international territories.

More than two weeks before its first season premiere, Starz has renewed its original drama series Magic City for a second season with ten episodes. Magic City premieres April 6 at 10p and is set in 1959 Miami Beach. The series is created and executive produced by Mitch Glazer and it stars Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Olga Kurylenko and Danny Huston. Production on the second season will commence later this year with an expected premiere on STARZ in 2013.

Thursdays this summer will be home to TBS’ new original comedies starting with buddy comedy Men at Work premiering May 24 at 10p with back-to-back episodes. Beginning July 19, new workplace comedy Sullivan & Son will take over the time period. Men at Work stars Danny Masterson, Michael Cassidy, Adam Busch and James Lesure and was created by Breckin Meyer and produced by Sony Pictures Television and Fanfare. A trio of new series are joining HGTV’s lineup, per B&C. Buying and Selling (wt) is a spinoff of the network’s Property Brothers series where Jonathan Scott prepares a family’s home for sale while brother Drew finds their next property. The series debuts in September. Two other new HGTV series are spinoffs of the House Hunters franchise: House Hunters: Where Are They Now? debuts in October and looks in on memorable House Hunters families to see what happened after finding their new house. Living Abroad picks up where House Hunters International leaves off and looks at what it takes for Americans to adjust to a new country. The premiere date of Living Abroad has not been set yet.

British comedian Eddie Izzard is joining NBC’s Munsters re-make pilot titled Mockingbird Lane playing the Grandpa. Al Lewis originally played the role of Grandpa in the 1960s Munsters series. The CW ordered three new reality series for its summer schedule which will join the network’s previously-announced game show Oh Sit!.
