Southern Florida‘s WSFL-TV, owned by the Tribune Company, is hosting an open audition for spoken-word artists for the station’s Emmy Award-winning PSA campaign “Free to be Heard.“ The open audition is this Friday from 1p to 8p at Nova Southeastern University and selected performers will be taped in front of a live audience. The campaign began in 2007 to showcase the cultural and political contributions of historic and influential African-American leaders. Participants should have a 20-second spoken-word performance ready about an individual who has shaped African-American history (no profanity due to FCC regulations) and they should bring a photo ID. Twelve performers will be selected to be in this year’s PSA campaign airing next month during Black History Month on television and on SouthFlorida.com.
