Barbara Walters said during yesterday’s The View, after 29 years this year’s annual Oscar Night special, The Barbara Walters Special will be her final one. The veteran news anchor will continue on The View and host other ABC specials such as The 10 Most Fascinating People and other programs for ABC News. Production on FOX’s 24 is suspended for much of this week, following star and executive producer Kiefer Sutherland’s surgery for a ruptured cyst. Filming continued last week through Friday on scenes not involving Sutherland, and he will likely be back on the set later this week. Producing company, 20th TV does not expect any air delays for this current eighth season’s episodes.

Veteran soap opera actress Frances Reid, 95, died Wednesday. Frances appeared for more than 40 years on the NBC daytime drama Days of Our Lives as Alice Horton, the matriarch of the show’s pivotal family. Due to her declining health, she appeared on the show less and less though was referred to often by the other characters. Ken Corday, executive producer of Days of Our Lives released this statement, “This is a very sad day, indeed; not only for me personally, but for the ‘Days of our Lives’ family and the entire Hollywood community. From day one until she taped her last scene, Frances epitomized the past, present and future of the show. Frances was truly one of a kind. Her class cannot be matched and her shoes cannot be filled … we will miss her all the rest of our days.”

After 23 years, Pepsi announced yesterday it will pull out of the Super Bowl as an advertiser. Since 1987, Pepsi has advertised its various soda beverages in the Super Bowl coverage, though Frito-Lay, a division of PepsiCo Inc. will continue to advertise. Pepsi cited it is launching a new online marketing campaign next month “Pepsi Refresh Project” with the goal to give an estimated $20 million to help thousands of community projects across the nation. FedEx also declared they will not be buying ad time in the Super Bowl, scheduled to air February 7 on CBS. FedEx said costs are the main factor for their decision. A 30-second ad in the 2009 Super Bowl came in at $3 million each.
