Disney, Netflix and Tubi are in an arms race with YouTube over creators – and Skydance might be entering the arena next.
-Both Netflix and Disney have escalated their efforts to secure partnerships with creators – first Netflix with “CoCoMelon” and Ms. Rachel, and more recently Disney with Dhar Mann, Like Nastya and Dude Perfect.
-Creators are optimistic that Skydance will soon enter the competition for contracts with online influencers, given that new co-CEO Ynon Kreiz was formerly CEO of online video hub Maker Studios.
-YouTube, meanwhile, is tightening its grip on its user-generated content (UGC) stronghold with upgrades to creator monetization features and its creator affiliate program. Luckily for YouTube, nearly three-quarters of Gen Z and Gen Alpha ranked YouTube as the top storytelling medium, based on a recent report from the Center for Scholars and Storytellers at UCLA. (That same report, however, suggests that very few young people would want to cast influencers in their TV shows and films.)
–The Takeaway: YouTube, streaming services and traditional media companies are all competing for viewership among the younger digital-native generations. And apparently, all roads lead to the creator economy.

The details about the “Glee-vival” are scarce – for now – but it’s a safe bet Murphy will be directly involved. Lea Michele is already in talks to join the revival, too.
