Twelve Senate Democrats, spearheaded by Sen. Ed Markey, sent a letter urging FCC Chairman Brendan Carr to immediately withdraw his agency’s order requiring Disney to submit early license renewals for its eight broadcast stations. The senators highlighted the troubling timing of the directive, which came just 24 hours after President Trump publicly called for ABC to terminate late-night host Jimmy Kimmel. “You have effectively converted the FCC’s authority over the public airwaves into an instrument of presidential retribution against constitutionally protected speech,” the senators wrote. The letter sets a May 21 deadline for Carr to answer questions about the order’s timing and procedural basis, as well as any communications the FCC may have had with the White House before initiating the early license review.

That commitment was on full display during the White House Correspondents’ dinner, when he ran at full speed in his tux from the Washington Hilton to the White House briefing room to ensure NBC could ask the President a question — a moment that reflects his relentless drive to get the story when it matters most.” Haake succeeds Peter Alexander, who moved to an anchor position at MS NOW.
