As the midterm elections approach, YouTube is expanding access to its deepfake detection tool to a pilot group of journalists, government officials and political candidates. The tool looks for a participant’s likeness in AI-generated content, and if a match is found, the individual can review the content and request removal. YouTube said it plans to “significantly expand” access over the coming months.
