Why is veteran TV anchor Chris Wallace leaving CNN at the end of his three-year contract? “When I look at the media landscape right now, the people who are going independent, whether it’s podcasting or streaming, that seems to be where the action is,” he said on Tuesday. Wallace, 77, joined CNN in 2022 after 18 years at Fox News for a leading role at CNN+, but the platform was shut down a month later by then-CEO Chris Licht. Wallace instead has hosted a Saturday morning show on CNN and an interview program on Max, in addition to appearances as a commentator. The exit is amicable. “CNN has been very good to me,” said Wallace, while CNN chief executive Mark Thompson noted, “Chris Wallace is one of the most respected political journalists in the news business with a unique track record across radio, print, broadcast television, cable television and streaming.”
