Angela Bassett and Courtney B. Vance’s Bassett Vance Productions inked a deal with 20th Television to develop and executive produce comedy, drama, limited series and TV movies for linear networks and streamers, with an emphasis on platforms across Disney Entertainment Television. First out of the gate will be “Monkey Boy,” inspired by the novel by Francisco Goldman about an investigative journalist who discovers a connection between a political assassination in Central America and an unsolved murder in his hometown.

Another husband-and-wife team, Kumail Nanjiani and Emily V. Gordon,have launched Winter Coat Films. The production company has signed a first-look deal with Sony Pictures Television to produce scripted series. “Kumail and Emily are a dream team – artists who bring humanity, humor and authenticity to everything they explore,” said Katherine Pope, President Sony Pictures Television Studios. “We couldn’t be happier to support them and their newly formed production company, which we know will be hugely successful.”
