Kathleen Finch, Chairman and CEO of US Networks at Warner Bros. Discovery, is stepping down. “There is no one better at developing captivating content, compelling talent, and meaningful lifestyle brands than Kathleen,” said David Zaslav, WBD’s CEO, of the highly-regarded executive. “While I understand her long-standing decision to retire, I will certainly miss her, as will the entire company, which has benefitted from her unmatched collaboration and unique understanding of what our audiences crave.” Upon Finch’s retirement at the end of the year, the US Networks business will be led by Channing Dungey, Warner Bros. Television Group Chairman and CEO.

“It has been an honor to spend the past 25 years at Scripps, Discovery, and now Warner Bros. Discovery,” said Finch. “I began my journey at the fledgling Food Network and am so proud to have helped turn it into a cable powerhouse, and then to lead the team developing some of the most addictive unscripted franchises across HGTV and TLC, creating household names out of chefs and house flippers, and capturing the cultural conversation with real-life stories. The greatest joy, and the part I will miss the most, is the incredible people with whom I get to work every day. Starting with David and throughout the organization and of course all the amazing on-air talent, this is one of the smartest and most creative groups imaginable. I am so proud of what the US Networks group has accomplished together, and I know under Channing’s leadership there are many successes to come.”

A third hour of “CBS Mornings” is slated to launch on select CBS stations and streaming platform CBS News 24/7 in September. The show’s executive producer, Shawna Thomas, shared the news in a note to staff on Friday. While the added hour will have a slightly different look and feel, “it will still be the smart and engaging content everyone expects from the ‘CBS Mornings’ family,” said Thomas. Why now? “The expansion of ‘CBS Mornings’ shows a commitment to the brand and the idea that there is a possibility of some growth at a challenging time,” said Thomas. “So, let’s do this together and make another hour of tv/digital video/content we can be proud of.”

Nexstar intentionally defrauded DirecTV into paying $10.4 million in retrans fees, ruled the Supreme Court of the State of New York Appellate Division. Nexstar had sued DirecTV on the grounds that while NBC had informed DirecTV that a station in Maryland would be losing its affiliation, DirecTV negotiated with Nexstar for a fee based on the station retaining its affiliation. DirecTV claimed breach of contract and fraud, and the NY Supreme Court’s Appellate Department ruled it is entitled to damages.

Fubo’s request for a preliminary injunction to stop the launch of Disney, Fox Corp. and Warner Bros. Discovery’s Venu Sports joint venture was approved on Friday. US District Judge Margaret Garnett decided that Fubo would likely prevail on claims that Venu would lessen competition and restrain trade. Fubo said it intends to move forward with its lawsuit, filed February 20, alleging that the vertically-integrated media companies have engaged in a years-long campaign to block Fubo’s sports-first streaming business resulting in significant harm to both Fubo and consumers.

In response, Disney, Fox and WBD said in a statement, “We respectfully disagree with the court’s ruling and are appealing it. We believe that Fubo’s arguments are wrong on the facts and the law, and that Fubo has failed to prove it is legally entitled to a preliminary injunction. Venu Sports is a pro-competitive option that aims to enhance consumer choice by reaching a segment of viewers who currently are not served by existing subscription options.”
