ABC News anchor George Stephanopoulos nabbed the first television interview with President Joe Biden following his troubling performance at the presidential debate last week. A first look of the interview will air Friday, July 5, on “World News Tonight with David Muir,” with portions airing on “Good Morning America” Saturday and Sunday. The extended interview will air Sunday, July 7, on “This Week with George Stephanopoulos” and “Good Morning America” on Monday, July 8.

Paramount Global is back to talking to potential buyers after the company’s merger talks with Skydance Media came to an abrupt in June. A group of investors including BET CEO Scott Mills and CC Capital’s Chinh Chu is holding exclusive talks with the company about acquiring BET Media Group for about $1.6 billion, reports Bloomberg. BET was in play last year, but Paramount withdrew from discussions in August.

Barry Diller is considering making a bid for National Amusements,which would give him a controlling stake in Paramount Global, reports The New York Times. The media mogul’s company, IAC, has signed a non-disclosure agreement with National Amusements as he explores a deal. Diller, named head of Paramount Pictures in 1974, tried once before to buy the company, but was outbid by Sumner Redstone in 1994.

New six-episode thriller “The Dispatcher,” starring Patrick Brammall (“Colin from Accounts”) as a police dispatcher, is headed to Apple TV+. “The Dispatcher,” set in Australia, is adapted by writer and executive producer Kris Mrksa (“Requiem”) from Ryan David Jahn’s book of the same name. The series is executive produced by Jamie Laurenson and Hakan Kousetta at 60Forty Films, with executive producers Kris Mrksa and Joanna Werner at Werner Film Productions.

It’s cost-cutting time at Blackstone-backed studio Candle Media, which is splitting into two divisions, reports Semafor. Animation projects will be folded into Moonbug Entertainment (“CoCoMelon”), while the live action productions companies, including Hello Sunshine, Exile, True Stories and Faraway Road, will be rebranded as Candle Studios. It’s not a crisis, but a matter of timing, co-founder Kevin Mayer told Semafor. “We paid at the top of the market,” acknowledged the exec. “Have the financials borne out the way we would like, to have to support the price we paid? Probably not…. Talk to us in two or three years.”

Canada’s Mercury Filmworks (“The Wonderful World of Mickey Mouse”) and France and Canada’s Blue Spirit Studios (“Rocket and Groot”), part of TF1 Group’s Newen Studios, announced the launch of “Seraphim,” an animation pipeline designed to produce “high end animation that melds the artistic expressions of 2D and 3D techniques blurring the line between concept art and production.”

We TV is launching a new series, “Wiggin’ Out with Tokyo Stylez,” next month. The 8-episode docuseries follows celebrity hairstylist and entrepreneur Stylez. “Tokyo Stylez’s dedication, discipline and natural born talent has made her one of the most sought-after hairstylists in the industry with an impressive roster of A-list clients,” said Brett Dismuke, Head of Content, We TV and ALLBLK. “Wiggin’ Out With Tokyo Stylez pulls back the curtain on her life as viewers continue to get to know Tokyo, the dynamic stylist, but also Tokyo, the person who is doing her best to manage it all and build her empire.” The series will stream on ALLBLK.

Netflix ordered more scripted TV projects through 1Q4 than it has since 2022, according to Ampere Analysis, and Amazon had more quarterly commissions than it has since Ampere started keeping track five years ago. The companies accounted for 53% of worldwide streamers’ commissions, with the majority of titles outside the US. “In Q1 2024, Netflix’s Western European commissions almost achieved parity with North American titles for the first time,” Ampere said. “Netflix is seizing the opportunity for international growth, focusing on proven market providers of portable content such as Spain, India, and South Korea.” Amazon is focusing on India, with 37 orders in the quarter, “cementing Inda as the cornerstone of its international strategy.”

A docuseries about the 2022 murders of four University of Idaho students, produced by Skydance Television and Story Syndicate, has been picked up by Prime Video. Last year, Skydance optioned a nonfiction book by James Patterson and Vicky Ward about the murders. A scripted adaptation is in development at Amazon MGM Studios.

Sony Pictures Television has taken majority control of Eleventh Hour Films (“The Killing Kind,” “Alex Rider”), with a capital investment it says will “supercharge the next phase of growth” for the company. SPT first invested in Eleventh Hour in 2018. Eve Gutierrez and Paula Cuddy will take the roles of co-CEOs of the company, while founder Jill Green transitions to creative executive producer and chairperson.

Sherri Papini, arrested in 2022 for her 2016 kidnapping hoax, will share her side of the story with ID. “Sherri Papini drew worldwide attention when she went missing and then again, when she returned,” said ID President Jason Sarlanis. “While many perspectives have been told, there is one point of view that the world hasn’t heard and that is from Sherri herself. Investigation Discovery will present a new side of Sherri Papini’s case — told by her in her own words.” Production is underway for the docuseries, slated to premiere on ID in 2025.
