Following the Paramount board’s approval of a deal to merge with Skydance, Mario Gabelli, a major Paramount shareholder, has filed a legal records request for access to information regarding NA head Shari Redstone’s payout. Skydance and its backers are paying $8 billion in a complex transaction that gives it control of National Amusements, after which it will merge with Paramount. Gabelli’s efforts to increase transparency – or “Operation fish bowl” – “most likely starts today,” Gabelli wrote in a Friday post on X. The deal is expected to close in the third quarter of 2025.

A federal court on Friday temporarily blocked the FCC’s Internet competition rules that were to take effect on July 22. The 6th Circuit Court of Appeals stayed the new net neutrality rules, which included bans on throttling and charging higher fees for prioritized delivery, until August 5. Organizations representing broadband providers had sued to block the rules.

CBS announced premiere fall season premiere dates, kicking off with the season 47 premiere of “Survivor” on Wednesday, September 18 at 8p. “48 Hours” returns for season 37 on Saturday, September 21 at 9p, and “60 Minutes” is back for a 57th run on Sunday, September 22 at 7p, followed by a sneak peek at “Matlock,” which moves to Thursdays at 10p starting October 17. Also getting a special post-“60 Minutes” slot is “The Summit” on September 29, before moving to Wednesdays at 9:30 starting October 16.
