Production is underway on the political espionage thriller “The Agency” for Paramount+ with Showtime, with Michael Fassbender (“The Killer”) set as star and executive producer. George Clooney and Grant Heslov will executive produce through their Smokehouse Pictures with Showtime/MTV Entertainment Studios and 101 Studios. “Michael Fassbender is one of the most gifted actors of our time,” said Chris McCarthy, Paramount Global Co-CEO and President/CEO, Showtime & MTV Entertainment Studios. “He brings a gravitas and nuanced complexity to every character he inhabits which is why we are so excited for him to star in ‘The Agency.’”

Ricky Cobb has signed on to host a new daily show launching later this summer on OutKick. The program will feature the knowledge of sports and culture he shares on @Super70sSports. “This show makes the natural connection between the deep passion for sports, culture, and humor I’m known for on X with my two-decade background as a college sociology professor,” said Cobb. “The things I’ve prioritized most in my professional life are entertaining people and sparking critical thought and discussion. NBC’s annual “Macy’s 4th of July Fireworks” special will be hosted by country artist Mickey Guyton and Zuri Hall (“Access Hollywood”). No surprise that the show will air on Thursday, July 4 from 8-10p, but this year the fireworks will launch from barges along the Hudson River, instead of the East River, where they launched for the past nine years. The show will also feature a never-before-seen firework, a silver cascading burst with a center kaleidoscope and alternating red and blue.

The Recording Industry Association of America and US record labelsincluding Sony Music Entertainment, UMG Recordings and Warner Records have filed lawsuits against AI music generators Suno and Idio for copyright infringement. RIAA chief legal officer Ken Doroshow said the lawsuits are necessary to “reinforce the most basic rules of the road for the responsible, ethical, and lawful development of generative AI systems.” Suno AI CEO responded to the legal effort with a statement saying that the technology is “designed to generate completely new outputs, not to memorize and regurgitate pre-existing content” and doesn’t allow users to reference specific artists.

Multiple AI companies are bypassing a common web standard used by publishers to block the scraping of their content, according to content licensing startup TollBit. Reuters reports that in a letter to publishers, TollBit said “numerous” AI agents appear to be ignoring protocol robots.txt. “What this means in practical terms is that AI agents from multiple sources (not just one company) are opting to bypass the robots.txt protocol to retrieve content from sites,” wrote TollBit, without naming the companies. “The more publisher logs we ingest, the more this pattern emerges.”

Paramount Global is raising the price of Paramount+ with Showtime by $1, to $12.99/month, the price of the Paramount+ Essential plan by $2, to $7.99/ month, and upping the Paramount+ Limited Commercial Plan by $1, to $7.99 (with some differences between existing and new subscribers).
