Decent ratings couldn’t keep “CSI: Vegas” and “So Help Me Todd” from the chopping block. CBS canceled the “CSI” spinoff after three seasons, despite 35-day multi-platform viewership of 7.6 million, and “Todd” after two, and 7.7 million viewers. As the least-watched dramas on CBS this spring, the shows were victims of a healthy slate at the network, and their cancellations help make room for additions like “Matlock,” “Watson” and “NCIS: Origins.”

Paramount may be in exclusive merger talks with Skydance, but that’s not keeping other companies from waiting in the wings. Sony Pictures Entertainment and Apollo Global Management are in discussions about making a joint bid, according to The New York Times. Wall Street liked that news, sending Paramount shares up by 13% on Friday. Apollo earlier made an offer of at least $26 billion, but there were questions about financing – a concern that could be addressed by a joint bid.

“The Kelly Clarkson Show” landed the most Daytime Emmy nominations for a talk show, with nine, while CBS’ “The Young and the Restless” and “The Bold and the Beautiful” tied for tops among soap operas with 12 nominations apiece. Australian soap “Neighbors” scored two nods for Amazon Freevee, which revived the show after its 37-year run Down Under. And 98-year-old Dick Van Dyke holds the distinction of being the oldest Daytime Emmy nominee, for his guest appearance on NBC’s “Days of Our Lives.” The ceremony airs on CBS on Friday, June 7.

Sesame Workshop writers struck a tentative deal with the nonprofit organization to avert a strike. The writers had voted to authorize a strike should an agreement not be reached, and picketing was set to start April 24. Instead, the writers “won a new agreement that recognizes the value of the incredible work they do to educate and enlighten children around the world,” said WGAE President Lisa Takeuchi Cullen. “This contract could not have been achieved without the solidarity and fortitude shown by the entire bargaining unit throughout the negotiations. Workers win when they stand together.”

Nextstar Media Group, which took a 75% stake in The CW in 2022, said the network is not renewing its affiliations with E.W. Scripps-owned stations in Detroit; Miami; Tucson; Corpus Christi, TX; San Luis Obispo, CA; Norfolk, VA; and Lafayette, LA. The CW will move to Nextstar-owned stations in Norfolk and Lafayette on September 1, and “We have interest from other station groups in the five remaining markets and expect to make announcements about those affiliations soon,” said Nexstar in a statement. “We are prepared for this transition and confident that The CW will continue to reach 100% of US television households without interruption.”

A new campaign from Republica Havas in collaboration with Amigos for Kids, “The Missing Review,” employs reviews on Google and Yelp to add information about missing children to five-star reviews for establishments located in the vicinity of where the children disappeared. “Republica Havas ’novel use of digital platforms has quickly proven a more dynamic and engaging approach than traditional awareness methods such as billboards and posters. Business owners have already started to recognize and support the campaign, and their participation further underlines its impact and reach,” said Karina Pavone, President and CEO of Amigos For Kids. The campaign is focused on the five states with the highest rate of missing children cases: Florida, California, Texas, Ohio and New York, and has generated thousands of views and more than 10 million impressions over the past two weeks.
