Chelsea Handler is back as host of the Critics’ Choice Awards. “I am very happy and excited to be hosting the Critics’ Choice Awards again this year, as last year was one of the most fun nights I’ve had,” said Handler. “There is no greater reward than making fun of actors and then getting drunk with them afterward. Netflix has renewed “The Upshaws” for season four. The multi-camera comedy series created by Wanda Sykes and Regina Hicks will have a 10-episode fourth season, with production scheduled to begin next year. The second half of season three (part five) is slated to premiere in spring 2024.

Dwayne Johnson and Dany Garcia’s Seven Bucks Productions has signed on to co-produce a RoboForce animated series. Aptly named “RoboForce: The Animated Series” is set in 2089, when a rogue code infects the Utopia Aegis 101. Brian Volk-Weiss will direct and executive produce the Nacelle project alongside Cisco Henson, Matt Kravitsky, Michael Goodman, Tom Stern and Gavin Hignight on behalf of Nacelle. Johnson, Garcia, Hiram Garcia and Brian Gewirtz will executive produce for SBP. “We love that it’s a story about redemption, second chances, and rising to the challenge as told through the eyes of funny, messed up, renegade robots who finally get their chance to shine,” said Garcia and Johnson.

Amazon is developing a comedy series with Jamie Lee and Nikki Glaser. “Unsettling” follows two childless best friends in their 30s who agree to “go in” on a baby together. Written by Lee, the series is in development for Prime Video from Warner Bros. TV, Doozer Productions and Amazon MGM Studios.

A scripted series based on novel The In-Between is in the works. UCP, a division of Universal Studio Group, has secured the rights to the project adaptation of the book written by hospice nurse Hadley Vlahos. Vlahos will serve as an executive producer on the series. “I feel that my patients are living on through everyone hearing their stories and I am thrilled about the opportunity to share those stories on a different platform to reach even more people,” said Vlahos.
