Drew Barrymore, who was scheduled to host the “MTV Movie & TV Awards” on Sunday, has pulled out in solidarity with the striking writers. “Until a solution is reached, I am choosing to wait but I’ll be watching from home and hope you will join me. I thank MTV, who has truly been some of the best partners I have ever worked with.” No hard feelings responded MTV, which will air the shot host-less. “We understand and deeply respect her decision,” said Bruce Gillmer, President of Music, Music Talent, Programming and Events at Paramount Global. “We are excited to welcome her back in 2024.”

The Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers responded to demands from the WGA that have kept writers on the picket lines. The AMPTP said that it is prepared to improve its offer, but the guild’s insistence on “mandatory staffing” and “duration of employment” would require a company to staff a show with a certain number of writers for a specified period of time, whether needed or not, and “is in reality a hiring quota that is incompatible with the creative nature of our industry.” The AMPTP also asserted it is offering fair wage increases and improvements.

Fox News is objecting to the efforts of new organizations including The AP, The New York Times and NPR to unseal documents related to the defamation lawsuit that FNC settled with Dominion Voting Systems. One of the goals of setting the case was to “buy peace and bring an end to the media spectacle,” wrote Fox lawyer Katharine L. Mowery to Delaware Superior Court Judge Eric Davis, and claimed unsealing the documents would “gratify public spite or promote public scandal.”

CBS has handed a greenlight to “Loteria Loca,” based on a Latin game of chance. Hosted and executive produced by Jaime Camil (“Jane the Virgin”), the series is expected to launch during the 2023-24 season. “I grew up playing Lotería with my family and friends back in México. I could say, without a shadow of a doubt, that every single Mexican family owned and still owns a Lotería game,” said Camil. “Even though this board game, which is similar to bingo, is still played and owned by millions of people around the globe, it’s something that resonates even more with every single Latinx person, because it helps connect with our heritage and emotional memories.”
