Nielsen has agreed to be acquired by a private equity group led by Evergreen Coast Capital Corporation, an affiliate of Elliott Investment Management, and Brookfield Business Partners for $16 billion. While Nielsen had rejected an earlier offer, “After a thorough assessment, the Board determined that this transaction represents an attractive outcome for our shareholders by providing a cash takeout at a substantial premium, while supporting Nielsen’s commitment to our clients, employees and stakeholders,” said James A. Attwood, chairperson of Nielsen’s Board of Directors. The sale, subject to shareholder and regulatory approval, is expected to close in the second half of 2022.

Carlton Cuse (“Lost,” “Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan”) has signed a first-look deal with Amazon Studios to develop and produce projects for Prime Video. “Carlton Cuse is a hitmaker whose track record and ability to imagine and create textured characters and worlds makes him a treasured talent,” said Vernon Sanders, Head of Global Television, Amazon Studios. “The success of ‘Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan’ is an obvious reason for us at Amazon Studios to continue and grow our relationship with Carlton, but his continued vigor for storytelling makes us fortunate to work with this incredibly creative powerhouse.” Cuse has been under an overall deal with ABC Signature.

Apple TV+ ordered a series based on 2016 sci-fi novel Dark Matter by Blake Crouch. Joel Edgarton (“Revenge of the Sith”) is attached to an executive produce, with Crouch serving as writer and showrunner. Sony Pictures Television is producing.
