Jerry Seinfeld won a lawsuit that claimed he was not the one who came up with the idea for his Netflix show, Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee. A judge ruled that Christian Charles, who said he had worked with Seinfeld since 1994 and mentioned the idea for “Two Stupid Guys in a Car Driving to a Stupid Town” as early as 2002, waited too long to file his lawsuit, exceeding the statute of limitations. “This lawsuit was nothing but a money-grab seeking to capitalize on the success of the show,” said Seinfeld’s lawyer. “We are pleased that the court saw through the noise.”

Rachel Smith is joining Entertainment Tonight as a full-time New York based correspondent beginning October 7. “Rachel has been on our radar for over a year, and we know she’s the perfect journalist to elevate ET’s presence in New York,” said executive producer Erin Johnson said. Apple TV+, set to launch in November, has increased its ad spending, topping the amount spent by any other streamer from August 29-September 29 with $15.3 million on seven spots and 489 airings, according to iSpot.tv. Hulu has spent $14.6 million, Amazon Prime Video $13.3 million, Sling TV $6.6 million, Netflix $5.0 million, ESPN+ $2.7 million, while upcoming Disney+ has invested $1.4 million.

YouTube TV is officially available on Fire TV devices, announced Amazon on Monday. Over 70 channels, including ABC, CBS, Fox and NBC, as well as cable nets includingDiscovery, TNT, CNN, ESPN and more are available, plus unlimited cloud DVR storage space. The YouTube app debuted on Fire TV in July.

The number of shows and movies viewers are downloading from the apps they subscribe to has seen a steep increase, reports Penthera, which powers downloads for CBS All Access, Fox, Starz, Showtime, HBO Europe and other global OTT apps. In August, downloads were up 131.9% year-over-year across Penthera’s network, the number of downloading devices was up 112% YoY, and downloads per device were up 8.9% in August. Particularly noteworthy: In health, wellness & fitness, the number of downloading devices has grown 159% YoY; in the past 6 months, sports has spiked 168%; and news apps have 164% more downloading devices.

ABC’s season two premiere of The Rookie, moved to Sundays, delivered triple-digit time period improvement over the L+SD average of The Alec Baldwin Show in the hour last season, up 186% in total viewers (4.0 million vs. 1.4 million) and by 250% in A18-49 (0.7/3 vs. 0.2/1). The Rookie was ABC’s most-watched fall premiere in the hour in 4 years and highest-rated among Adults 18-49 in 3 years.
