At least until recently, U.S. cable news nets gave the fires that are eating up areas of the Amazon rain forest less than 7% of the coverage they afforded the fire in Paris’ Notre Dame cathedral, according to Media Matters. The combined cable news coverage of the Amazon fires peaked at 11 segments that mention the fires per day, versus 150 segments for Notre Dame, according to the media watchdog.
