A&E’s 60 Days In: Narcoland, premiering tonight, expands the franchise with a spin-off that takes the show outside of prison walls to look at the drug ecosystem. Greg Henry, an exec producer of the show, explains the shift. “In brainstorming ways to shed new light on the drug epidemic in America, we turned to the approach that’s been so effective with 60 Days In,” says Henry. “Embedding outsiders into communities that have been overrun with drug trafficking, in essence, allows us to thrust the audience directly into the middle of a critical situation. In addition to perspective from law enforcement and those incarcerated for drug-related offenses, viewers are given a new vantage point through our undercover participants, as they meet the real people who are both fueling and fighting the crisis, and witness first-hand its devastating effects on America’s heartland.”
