Netflix has taken a stand against Georgia’s recent passage of a strict abortion law, with Chief Content Officer Ted Sarandos announcing on Tuesday that the streaming service would rethink its “entire investment in Georgia” if legislation known as the “heartbeat bill” becomes a state law. The bill would outlaw abortions after a fetal heartbeat is detected and is set to become a law next year. “We have many women working on productions in Georgia, whose rights, along with millions of others, will be severely restricted by this law,” said Sarandos in a statement. “It’s why we will work with the ACLU and others to fight it in court. Given the legislation has not yet been implemented, we’ll continue to film there – while also supporting partners and artists who choose not to.” Netflix projects currently filming in the state include The Liberator, Christmas on the Square, Holidate, the second season of Insatiable and the third season of Ozark.
