Sunday’s finale of Game of Thrones set a series record 19.3 million viewers across HBO, HBO Go and HBO Now. On HBO alone, the 9p tally was a record-busting 13.6 million viewers, the most ever for a single telecast on HBO. The GoT ender also goosed the season finale of Barry – the dark comedy drew 2.7 million viewers across HBO platforms, versus 774,000 for last year’s season one conclusion.

Record ratings (and a controversial ending) aren’t the only GoT newsmakers. Two weeks after coffee cup-gate, at least a few sharp-eyed Thrones viewers had blink-and-you-missed-it sightings of plastic water bottles about 46 minutes into the episode, which quickly went viral. And The View co-host Megan McCain had to tweet an apology/warning after giving away the GoT ending on her Monday morning show. “I assumed every diehard fan had watched!” said McCain. “My bad. Don’t watch west coast if you don’t want a spoiler.”

McCain could hardly be blamed for assuming the secret was out about the Thrones finale (okay, but still…) – there were  6.38 million tweets around the show on Sunday, making up 84% of the Twitter conversation around episodic TV. GoT even surpassed the conversation surrounding Super Bowl 53 on Twitter by 5%.

As packaging fees take center stage in the battle between agents and writers, AMC has claimed a lawyer representing CAA – which is looking for millions as part of its profit participation in The Walking Dead – has been obstructing its investigation. “The dirty secret in Hollywood is that talent agents often sell their clients down the river in exchange for bigger packaging fees for themselves,” said AMC in a letter to a New York Supreme Court Justice. “That is the subject of a pending lawsuit by the Writers Guild of America, of which [TWD co-creator Frank] Darabont is a member, against CAA and other talent agencies. That is what happened here, and [lawyer Dale] Kinsella wants to shut down this inquiry.” Kinsella responded by labeling AMC’s letter “a publicity stunt.”

Netflix is considered by viewers to be the home of the “best original programming” among premium TV and OTT services, according to a report from Morgan Stanley. Forty percent of respondents named the streamer as number one, versus 32% who said “I don’t know,” 11% who named HBO, 6% who chose Hulu, 5% for Amazon Prime and 2% each for Showtime and Starz. Hulu won the cord-cutter derby, with a third of subscribers saying they did not have traditional TV, followed by Netflix with 27%.

Dish Network is buying EchoStar’s Broadcast Satellite Service, for $800 million. The deal gives Dish nine direct broadcast satellites. EchoStar shareholders are getting about 22.9 million shares in Dish. In 2017, when Dish acquired the EchoStar assets that were needed to deliver the Dish TV and Sling TV customer experiences, key broadcast satellite operations and services remained with EchoStar, said Dish President and CEO Erik Carlson, adding, “This transaction brings those operations, including the BSS satellites, associated assets and key team members, in house and we expect those additions will create operational efficiencies and improve both free cash flow and EBITDA.”

Slasher: Solstice, created by Aaron Martin, is set to premiere on Netflix on Thursday, May 23. Why an anthology format for the horror series, about to enter season three? “When I pitched the series, it was, ‘What would happen if you mixed an Agatha Christie novel with an 80s slasher film?’, meaning that as much as the kills are important, so is the mystery – and every mystery needs to be solved. That’s why we’re an anthology; each season is like one 8 hour slasher film. Also, willful suspension of disbelief can be suspended for only so long; at some point, if this was an ongoing series, you’d have to ask: Why the hell haven’t these people left this murderville???”
