With a 21st season renewal from NBC, Law & Order: Special Victims Unit is poised to break the record as the longest-running primetime live-action series ever. “We tip our cap to Dick Wolf, Mariska Hargitay and the amazing cast and crew of SVU, who now all go into the record book,” said Paul Telegdy and George Cheeks, Co-Chairman, NBC Entertainment. “This incredible run is an example of what happens when producers, writers and actors all come together and create a show that, year after year, speaks to its audience in a powerful way.” With its upcoming season, Law & Order: SVU will surpass Law & Order (1990-2010) and Gunsmoke (1955-1975).

Streaming service UMC (Urban Movie Channel) announced a new multi-generational family drama from Dan Garcia(Bronx SIU). Currently in the beginning stages of production, the new series will star Demetria McKinney (House of Payne), Paula Jai Parker (Ray Donovan), Lawrence Hilton Jacobs (The Jacksons: An American Dream), Brad James (For Better or Worse), David McKnight (Hollywood Shuffle), Taja V. Simpson (Lethal Weapon) and Art Evans (Die Hard 2). Series is slated for a summer 2019 premiere.

Apple canceled AirPower, a wireless charger first announced in September 2017. “After much effort, we’ve concluded AirPower will not achieve our high standards and we have cancelled the project….We continue to believe that the future is wireless and are committed to push the wireless experience forward,” said Dan Riccio, Apple’s senior vice president of Hardware Engineering. AirPower had originally been expected to launch in 2018.

The premiere of NBC comedy Abby’s delivered a soft 2.62 million viewers and 0.5 rating among A18-46 on Thursday, opposite CBS’s NCAA coverage. ABC’s Grey’s Anatomy led non-sports programming with 7.3 million viewers and 1.5 in the demo, up from 6.57 million and 1.4 last week.
