The Big Bang Theory’s Jim Parsons sold a comedy inspired by his Texas upbringing, family and friends to ABC. The net gave a put pilot commitment to Bless Her Heart, from former Modern Family EP Chuck Tatham, Parsons and Todd Spiewak’s That’s Wonderful Productions and Warner Bros. TV. Written by Tatham, series centers on two very different Texas matriarchs who wreak havoc on their children’s lives when they all end up living together.

NBC ordered reality competition Songland, a series aimed at discovering the next generation of songwriters, with The Voice coach Adam Levine onboard as an executive producer. Episodes will feature five up-and-coming songwriters, who are mentored by a trio of established music producers. The winner’s song will be recorded by a famous musician.

The CW announced its 2019 summer programming lineup, featuring six original series – one new and five returning. The network acquired British action drama Bulletproof from Sky Vision, and ordered sophomore seasons of legal drama Burden of Truth and fantasy adventure The Outpost. Magic series Penn & Teller: Fool Us and Masters Of Illusion were also renewed, along with improv favorite Whose Line Is It Anyway? All are set to bow in the summer of 2019.

Instagram is combatting bullying with new machine learning technology that proactively detects bullying in photos and captions. “Online bullying is complex, and we know we have more work to do to further limit bullying and spread kindness on Instagram,” said Adam Mosseri, the new head of Instagram, in a blog post. Instagram is also launching a “Kindness Camera Effect” in partnership with dancer Maddie Ziegler; in selfie mode, hearts will appear on the screen and in rear mode, kind comments in different languages appear.

Amazon has some competition. Vudu, the streaming video service owned by Walmart, inked a deal with MGM to develop TV series based on the independent studio’s film and TV backlog catalog. The first slate of MGM programming is set to arrive at Vudu in 2019. Shows picked up by Vudu will be available exclusively in the company’s free, ad-supported “Movies On Us” service in North America. Vudu execs told Variety that the content would be family friendly and ad friendly.
