CBS announced plans for “CBS Stages Canada,” a TV and film production facility outside Toronto expected to open in mid-2019. The multi-use production facility will include six soundstages, production offices, support facilities and auxiliary services for large-scale television and film production. “CBS has a strong production history in Canada,” said David Stapf, president, CBS Television Studios. “The Toronto area specifically has provided our series with diverse and appealing locations as well as production infrastructure and crafts expertise that cannot be easily found.”

In other CBS news, former Time Warner CEO Richard Parsons was named CBS Corporation’s interim chairman of the board of directors, replacing Les Moonves, who exited amid allegations of sexual assault on September 9. “We have a distinguished and independent Board that is steadfast in its commitment to serve the best interests of all shareholders,” said Parsons. Stepping down from the board are Bruce Gordon and William Cohen.

21st Century Fox is selling its 39% stake in Sky to Comcast, which on Saturday beat Fox with a $40 billion bid for the other 61% of the European pay-TV giant. The deal has the stamp of approval from Disney, which is acquiring most of Fox. Said Fox in a statement, “In light of the premium Comcast has agreed to pay for Sky, we and Disney have decided to sell 21CF’s existing 39% holding in Sky to Comcast. We congratulate Comcast on their pending acquisition.”

FOX News Channel is teaming with FOX Sports for Thursday Night Football, with NFL Hall of Famers Michael Strahan, Terry Bradshaw and Howie Long hosting FOX Sports’ new pregame show live from FNC’s state-of-the-art studios in NYC. Beginning Week 4, the Thursday Night Football Pregame Show will air at 7:30p on FOX, taking viewers up to kickoff.

TNT tapped Frank Pugliese (House of Cards) to serve as showrunner for new limited series The Angel of Darkness, based on the sequel to Caleb Carr bestseller – and top 10 cable drama – The Alienist.
