Almost two years after AT&T struck a deal to acquire Time Warner for $85.4 billion dollars, a federal judge has ruled that AT&T can make the acquisition, no strings attached, rejecting the U.S. Justice Department’s request to block the merger. The Justice Department filed the antitrust suit late last year, on the grounds the merger would hurt consumers because it could limit competition and raise prices. AT&T and Time Warner countered that deals such as this are necessary to keep pace with streaming rivals like Netflix.

Judge Richard Leon imposed no conditions on the merger, and said he hoped the government “has the wisdom and courage” not to seek a stay. The decision will likely encourage plans for other transactions, in the media world and beyond, most immediately Comcast’s potential competing bid for Fox assets. As for the government, Assistant Attorney General Makan Delrahim said, “We will closely review the Court’s opinion and consider next steps.”

National Amusements and CBS Corp. agreed to court dates of October 3, 4, 5, 8 and 9 to decide whether CBS can reduce National Amusements’ voting control, currently 79%, to 17% with a dividend issuance to shareholders. The legal skirmish started with NA co-owner Shari Redstone’s push to merge Viacom with CBS.

ABC late night host Jimmy Kimmel and Sen. Ted Cruz will face off on Saturday, June 16 for a one-on-one basketball game at Texas Southern University. “The reason this is happening is because after Game 7 of the Western Conference Finals, I likened Sen. Soon you can worry a little less about that Snapchat message you kinda wish you hadn’t sent. Snap is rolling out a new feature, Clear Chats, that lets users retract a message; currently the app auto-deletes messages after they’re viewed.  Facebook said it was working on giving users the ability to unsend messages after reports in April that Mark Zuckerberg could do it, but looks like Snap got there first.
