Fixer Upper power couple Chip and Joanna Gaines got an apology from writer Daryl Austin, who accused them in a column for USA Today of putting their businesses over their children. ”Frankly, I wonder where they even find time to brush their teeth, let alone spend quality, one-on-one time with each child daily,” wrote Austin. On Twitter, Chip Gaines said his family (four kids, soon to be five) came first, and if he needed to, he’d “shut down this circus so fast it will make your head spin.” In a column for Fox News, Austin corrected his take on the Gainses. “Mine was a flawed argument that projected my if/then belief system onto another family,” he said. “My intention was to start a conversation about what it actually means to put family first, but my means of doing so were way off course.” Although episodes of Fixer Upper are still airing on HGTV, the Gainses decided to stop doing the show last year.

Sarah Jeffery, one of the stars of CW’s upcoming Charmed reboot, jumped to the defense of her new show after one of Charmed’s original stars, Holly Marie Combs, tweeted, “I will never understand what is fierce, funny, or feminist in creating a show that basically says the original actresses are too old to do a job they did 12 years ago.” Jeffery responded on Saturday by saying that while the original show will always be respected, “I know our show will have a positive effect on so many women, youth and anyone who is receptive to being on the right side of history.”

Sesame Street creators filed a lawsuit against STX Entertainment, alleging that the marketing campaign for R-rated The Happytime Murders will hurt the house of Elmo. The film starring Melissa McCarthy centers on a puppet cast from a 1980s TV show that get murdered; the Jim Henson Company helped produce. The movie features scenes of drug use and sex by puppets, but it’s the promo’s tag line, “No Sesame. All Street.”, that has kids’ show’s creators riled. “While the trailer at issue is almost indescribably crude, ‘Sesame’ is not trying to enjoin defendants’ promotion or distribution of their movie,” says the suit. “It is only defendants’ deliberate choice to invoke and commercially misappropriate ‘Sesame’s’ name and goodwill in marketing the movie – and thereby cause consumers to conclude that ‘Sesame’ is somehow associated with the movie – that has infringed on and tarnished the ‘Sesame Street’ mark and goodwill.”
