ABC’s cancellation of Roseanne was swift and decisive after series creator/star Roseanne Barr posted a racist tweet about former Obama adviser Valerie Jarrett. But might the network be considering bringing the cast, minus Barr, back for a different show? The cast members had their options picked up for 13 episodes, and will still have to be paid by producer Carsey-Werner. (Jimmy Kimmel’s suggestion: Dan.) A “well-placed source” told CNN it was too soon to talk about bringing the comedy back in some form … but “there will be time to sit down and look at all options.”

In a memo to staff, Disney/ABC Television Group president Ben Sherwood apologized to the people who “poured their hearts and lives into [Roseanne] and were just getting started on next season. We’re so sorry they were swept up in all of this.” In the end, said Sherwood, the decision to cancel the show “came down to doing what’s right.”

Meanwhile, Barr has spent post-cancellation time on Twitter, veering from apologizing for her abhorrent “ape” tweet, to blaming the post on sleep drug Ambien, to telling her supporters, “you guys make me feel like fighting back. I will examine all of my options carefully and get back to U.” Barr also retweeted a claim that ABC Entertainment president Channing Dungey had a “long conversation” with former First Lady Michelle Obama before deciding to cancel the show.

We know where it ends and we have a path for each season of the show.” At the series’ For-Your-Consideration event in LA, Fogelman didn’t reveal how many seasons the show has left, but said, “I don’t think this show, despite any success it might have, will overstay its welcome.”

The estate of Michael Jackson filed a lawsuit against ABC, claiming last week’s two-hour special, The Last Days of Michael Jackson, used songs, films and videos without permission. While ABC had removed an image from promotional material as “a courtesy,” the program “does not infringe on his estate’s rights,” said ABC News on May 23.
