Harvey Relief: Rescue and recovery efforts for victims of Hurricane Harvey are getting a boost from the media sector. Hearst announced it is donating $1 million to the Greater Houston Red Cross, and will match employee donations up to an additional $1 million…. The Walt Disney Co. and its owned ABC station KTRK in Houston committed $1 million cash to the American Red Cross in support of recovery efforts, and will match eligible Disney employee donations to the American Red Cross and other qualified organizations involved in the relief effort. In addition on Thursday, August 31, Disney|ABC Television Group will host a call-to-action Day of Giving to benefit those impacted by the storm… Reelz yesterday began airing PSAs every hour in support of the Salvation Army relief efforts for those displaced by Harvey in Texas and Louisiana. The PSAs will run on air for the next week and also on Reelz.com.

The National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences announced winners for the 69th annual Technology & Engineering Emmy Awards. Presented in partnership with the National Association of Broadcasters for the first time, awards will be handed out April 8 at the NAB Show in Las Vegas. Among honorees, Lifetime Achievement Awards will go to Robert Ross, SVP of CBS Engineering, and Richard Friedel, EVP of Fox Engineering.

CBS is the victor in a heated bidding war over Chiefs, the hourlong drama from David Hudgins, Carol Mendelsohn and Sony Pictures TV Studios. The network gave the series, about three women who are each chiefs of police of their own precincts in L.A. County who band together to try to capture a serial killer, a sizable pilot production commitment. Hudgins is exec-producing with Carol Mendelsohn Prods.’ Mendelsohn and Julie Weitz.
