Sylvester Stallone will guest star on season two of NBC’s This Is Us, revealed Dan Fogelman, series EP and showrunner, at the Television Critics Association summer tour. Sly will pop up in a plotline about Kevin’s big movie. “We needed a big star for his movie and we’re really excited about the script,” said Fogelman, noting that Milo Ventimiglia, who starred with Stallone in Rocky Balboa, was instrumental in making it happen. Regarding Jack’s death, Fogelman promised viewers would “get answers and more. The first episode has a first giant piece of the puzzle that will set the internet abuzz.”

BET Network unveiled a 2017 fall lineup featuring some big names in the industry, including showcase 50 Central, starring Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson; game show Face Value from EP Wanda Sykes and, starring Deon Cole and Tiffany Haddish; and satire series The Rundown with Robin Thede from EP Chris Rock. On the scripted side, The Comedy Get Down goes behind the scenes of a mega standup comedy tour with George LopezDL Hughley, Cedric the EntertainerEddie Griffin and the late Charlie Murphy. NBC also announced it was supercharging its inclusion efforts with Female Forward, a new annual initiative focused on female directors and a commitment to work toward gender parity among scripted directors across the network. Spearheaded by Jennifer Salke in a partnership with director Lesli Linka Glatter (Mad Men), it will give 10 female directors the opportunity to shadow up to three episodes of an NBC series, culminating in an in-season commitment to direct at least one episode of that series. “It’s been a collective and urgent goal of ours to identify more female directors,” said Salke. “We strongly believe women can and should be at the forefront of telling compelling stories, and I hope the guaranteed directing component will have real impact on our shows as well as the industry.”
