Discovery Communications’ $14.6 billion deal to acquire Scripps Networks Interactive might not be its last, David Zaslav, president and CEO, Discovery Comm., said in a call after the agreement was announced yesterday. “We’re not out of bullets,” noted Zaslav. “Over the next two years we still have enough room to do some selective purchases that are smaller.”

Los Angeles landed the Olympic Games for 2028. The city had aimed for a 2024 hosting gig, but Paris was awarded that slot. Faced with two strong candidates, the International Olympics Committee decided to give 2024 to one city and 2028 to the other. Either way, NBC would have held broadcast rights, thanks to an extension through the 2032 Games. LA hosted the event in 1984 and 1932.

The average number of televisions per homes dipped from 2.6 in 2009 to 2.3 in 2015, according to the Energy Information Administration. Starz is developing half-hour drama series, Sweetbitter, based on the bestseller by Stephanie Danler about a 22-year-old transplant navigating the chaotic world of NYC. Queen Victoria, subject of PBS Masterpiece series Victoria, was a woman “desperately in need of contraception,” said the show’s creator and writer Daisy Goodwin at the Television Critics Association summer tour. The mother of 9 “really wanted to be with her handsome husband; she loves going to bed with him but hates the result,” said Goodwin. Heading into season 2, there’s a “real strain” on her marriage to Prince Albert, as well as “many more parallels with [Brexit] than one would expect.”

MTV is reviving Total Request Live (aka TRL), the 1998-2008 music show. A “centerpiece” studio is under construction in Times Square, net president Chris McCarthy told the New York Times, with launch slated for October. Host Carson Daly will not be back for the revamp; the series will have rotating hosts. McCarthy also told the Times the Moon Man trophy at the MTV Video Music Awards will now be known as Moon Person.
