AT&T stood by its plan to let its wireless customers access its DirecTV Now streaming service without incurring data charges in a letter to the FCC. The company said the business model will make wireless broadband more competitive with cable, providing wireless customers with the kind of “mobile video experience they increasingly demand in the most consumer-friendly manner possible,” wrote Robert Quinn Jr., AT&T’s senior EV, external & legislative affairs.

Now in its 11th year, Writers on the Verge is an annual program for aspiring writers of diverse backgrounds who are “on the verge” of breaking out, but need a final polish of their writing and pitch presentation skills to equip them for a career in television. The program has produced successful television execs, among them staffers on The Blacklist, Superstore, American Crime, Suits, Shades of Blue and NBC midseason series The Blacklist Redemption and Midnight, Texas.

Legendary and the Frank Herbert estate reached an agreement granting the production house film and TV motion picture rights to revered sci-fi novel Dune. The agreement calls for the development and production of possible film and television projects for a global audience. The projects would be produced by Thomas Tull, Mary Parent and Cale Boyter, with Brian Herbert, Byron Merritt and Kim Herbert serving as executive producers.
