Sean Atkins is stepping down after a year as MTV president, but will stay as a consultant through January.

On the heels of the announcement that it is acquiring Time Warner for $85.4 billion, AT&T reported it has added 323,000 customers to its DirecTV platform, growing it by 1.2 million since taking over in August 2015. So what about streaming service DirecTV Now, slated to launch in 4Q16? “The more we iterate and work on DirecTV Now, the more we get excited,” said Randall Stephenson, CEO of AT&T. “We think about what else we can do on this platform, such as incorporating social  the ability to clip content you’re watching and share it with your friends. We’re trying to develop those types of products with content providers, but it’s really hard to get these innovations on content done.” But by owning Timer Warner, “we can innovate our content must faster,” said Stephenson.

Viacom announced that its Viacom Labs is testing a format that pulls livestreams from fans as a curated real-time feed, running on-air. MTV Australia will be the first to launch a series based on the experience, in 2017. “Viacom Labs’ mission is to constantly evolve how fans connect to the content they love and give them opportunities to make it their own,” said Susan Claxton, co-head of Viacom Labs.

Tonight Show producer/showrunner Josh Lieb is exiting for an overall deal with Universal Television. The gap will be filled Tonight show vets Katie Hockmeyer, overseeing production, and writers Gerard Bradford and Mike DiCenzo. “This is obviously bittersweet – there’s no show in the world more fun than The Tonight Show,” said Lieb. “But I’d like to write more, and try different things, and  frankly  spend a little more time with my kids. Jimmy’s a joy to work with, and the troika taking over for me is more than qualified. You won’t even notice I’m gone.”
