Shawn “Jay Z” Carter inked a two-year, exclusive first-look deal with The Weinstein Company to generate movies as well as scripted and unscripted TV. Jay Z, who has his own multimedia company Roc Nation, was a producer on the Jamie Foxx remake of Annie, co-producer on Top Five and EP on Baz Luhrmann’s The Great Gatsby. “I’m excited to tell stories from real-life prophets, whom through their struggles have changed the world for the better, and others whose stories are filled with fantasy and delight,” Jay Z said in a statement.

Terence Winter, who has written and executive produced The Sopranos, Boardwalk Empire and Vinyl, is collaborating with HBO, again. He’s been tapped to write and EP the upcoming HBO film about Griselda Blanco, the drug lord known as “The Cocaine Godmother” who revolutionized the U.S. drug trade during the 1970s and 1980s.
