The allegation by two writers that Fox comedy New Girl was based on a script they wrote was soundly rejected by a U.S. District Court judge. “No reasonable jury could conclude that there are substantial similarities in the plot, sequence of events, characters, mood, pace, setting, theme or dialogue between Square One and New Girl,” wrote Judge Stephen V. Wilson, granting a summary judgment to Fox and others in a copyright lawsuit. Season five of New Girl premieres tonight.

The Meredith Vieira Show will wrap after production of season two, announced NBCUniversal. The syndicated talker started its sophomore run with a .8 household rating, down 50% from its debut. “I am so sorry to see our show come to an end after this season, but I am also incredibly proud of the work our staff has done and forever grateful to our supportive viewers,” said Vieira.
