In a press conference yesterday, Amy Schumer made good on her promise to speak up in support of tighter gun control following the fatal shooting last month of two women at a screening of her film Trainwreck at a Louisiana theater. She joined Sen. Charles Schumer (D-NY) when he unveiled a plan that would make it harder for violent criminals and the mentally ill to obtain guns. The senator is Amy Schumer’s cousin. “Preventing dangerous people from getting guns is very possible,” the Inside Amy Schumer actress said. “These are my first public comments on the issue of gun violence, but I promise they won’t be my last.”

Rock legend Jimi Hendrix takes center stage in the new Showtime doc Jimi Hendrix: Electric Church, premiering Friday, September 4, at 9p, across Showtime platforms. The special chronicles Hendrix’s largest U.S. performance at the Atlanta Pop Music Festival in July 1970 with never-before-seen concert footage, plus footage of the festival’s promoter, Paul McCartney, Steve Winwood and other musicians.

HBO comedy Ferrell Takes the Field will get a premiere at a major league ballpark. In a first for the network, the special will debut Saturday, September 5, at Petco Park in San Diego following the baseball game between the SD Padres and the LA Dodgers, and Will Ferrell will be on hand to introduce it. Ferrell Takes the Field follows the comedian’s one-of-a-kind day last March, when he took the field at 10 different positions for 10 different teams. Special debuts Saturday, September 12, at 10p.

Carla Gugino will star in the recast Showtime comedy pilot Roadies. The series, from Cameron Crowe and J.J. Abrams, follows a rock tour through the eyes of the show’s road crew. Gugino will play the band’s production manager; in the original pilot that role belonged to Christina Hendricks.
