Miss Oklahoma Olivia Jordan won the Miss USA pageant Sunday, but Reelz took the Twitter crown with its coverage of the competition. After pageant co-owner Donald Trump’s derogatory comments about Mexican immigrants prompted NBC and Univision to pull out, Reelz stepped in, and while “We sold half the commercial time that we might have” thanks to the controversy, says Reelz CEO Stan E. Hubbard, “it was a great win for us, for all the right reasons. The pageant was able to go on. And it’s hard as an independent to get attention, but the industry noticed us – distributors, agencies and clients, and viewers. Everyone will look at us differently moving forward. The perception now is that we’re the little network that could.”
