Chris McCarthy has been named General Manager of VH1, overseeing all creative and business functions for the pop culture brand. McCarthy most recently oversaw MTV2 and Logo; both nets are riding eight consecutive quarters of year-over-year ratings growth.McCarthy will report to Doug Herzog, President of the Viacom Music and Entertainment Group.

HBO signed ESPN alum Bill Simmons to a multi-year, multi-platform deal that includes a weekly talk show covering sports and pop culture, set to debut in 2016 on HBO’s linear service, HBO Go and HBO. Simmons will also produce content and assets for the network and its digital platforms, delivering video podcasts and features.

A+E Networks‘ four-night scripted event series, Roots has set some execs. Phillip Noyce (Patriot Games) and Thomas Carter (Coach Carter) will helm nights one and three, respectively. The Jim Gaffigan Show attracted a gross audience of 3.2 million total viewers on TV Land, Nick at Nite and Comedy Central, and Impastor attracted 1.7 million gross total viewers on TV Land and Nick at Nite (Live+3).
