Kathy Bates joined the cast of American Horror Story: Hotel, the fifth installment of Ryan Murphy’s hit anthology series. Bates previously starred in AHS: Freak Show and AHS: Coven, for which she won an Emmy Award. Already onboard: Lady Gaga, Matt Bomer, Cheyenne Jackson, Wes Bentley and Chloe Sevigny.

Amazon Studios cast its untitled series about 18th century lover and spy Casanova. Diego Luna (Elysium, Milk) will tackle the lead role, Ben Daniels (House of Cards) will play Francois-Joachim de Bernis, and Miranda Richardson (Harry Potter) will portray Marquise d’Urfe. Currently in pre-production, the series will shoot in Paris, Venice and Hungary.

Sling TV, Dish Network‘s over-the-top Internet streaming service, will launch HBO by Saturday, April 11. Cost: an additional $15 per month. The launch precedes the season five premiere of Game of Thrones on Sunday.

TV Land added Freaks and Geeks to the list of honorees for the 2015 TV Land Awards. The cult comedy, which aired on NBC for one season from 1999 to 2000, will receive the 15th Anniversary Award. Ceremony airs Saturday, April 18 at 9p.

FOX picked up comedy The Last Man on Earth for a second season. “We knew we had something special with The Last Man on Earth. With 3-day playback factored in, the premiere of Spike’s Lip Sync Battle on Thursday, April 2 drew a record 3.2 million viewers for the channel. This marks the most-watched series premiere in network history and second most-watched original series telecast. Lip Sync Battle tallied a 2.0 rating among A18-49, the second highest for an original series in channel history.
