Fox is counting its Sunday blessings. The Simpsons had its best premiere number in three years, up 34 percent from its last season opener, averaging 3.9/11 among A18-49 and 8.5 million total viewers. An hour-long Family Guy, with a Simpsons crossover, had a 73 percent boost from its year ago debut, to 4.5/12, with 8.4 million total viewers.

Actor/producer/former White House official Kal Penn (How I Met Your Mother) will serve as a special correspondent for Fusion’s midterm election coverage. With live, Sunday-through-Thursday program Midterm Mayhem: The Ultimate Political Smackdown, Penn said, “We’re hoping to offer some smart, engaging, and entertaining reporting without obsessing over the lowest common denominator.”

ABC Family ordered supernatural drama Stitchers to series. “Stitchers is new ground for us and I’m excited to bring procedurals to the network,” said net president Tom Ascheim. ABC Family also ordered a second helping of Young & Hungry, basic cable’s top telecast in its time period among A18-34, and W18-34, but passed on a second run for Mystery Girls.

The Dovekeepers, from exec producers Roma Downey and Mark Burnett (The Bible), as commenced production in Malta for broadcast in 2015.
